it worked right in front of me on a concrete slab 15 foot square.....when it moved down thats were he dug up the slab and there was the leak.....

I've used them to find buried pipelines and cables lots of times. Does it always work? No, but it has worked for me much more than it hasn't worked.

The dude's name was something-Franklin, came on by to my land and asked for a 'live switch' from it, which i cut for him. He walked around for maybe 20 minutes until it pointed down. At that point he asked for another stick 6' long, took the skinny end and held the fat end over the spot he found, it bobbed up/down 12 times, he said water was 12' down, my boots started getting wet exactly then digging......~S~

Not for wells. Sometimes they are 400, 500, 600 feet deep or more.

Measuring gravity would work, as long as the range of the gravimeter is a limited number of miles below the surface. Oil, gas, water, and ore would all give different reading when added to the known mass of the rock formation. So drillers would actually know what is in the gaps revealed by seismic readings.

They could get readings from a known oil field and outside its boundaries.
