At one time the purpose of government was thought to be life, liberty and property, but Jefferson dropped the property bit and replaced it with the pursuit of happiness. Was Jefferson correct? John Adams another Declaration of Independence committee member agreed saying, "The happiness of people is the end of government."
Sounds outlandish, doesn't it?
"A right to a job may sound outlandish, but itÂ’s common sense. You need dollars to eat, and unless you steal the dollars, you generally have to earn them.
"If the government wants to protect property with cops, courts, and prisons, issue a single, common currency, and tax and fine us in it, it should at least guarantee we can work for our own dollars.
"Politicians ramble about equality of opportunity and the dignity of work, but to pull ourselves up by our bootstraps, we need boots.
"And lest our boots stomp each otherÂ’s necks in senseless competition for too few jobs, we need a job guarantee.
"A job guarantee isnÂ’t that radical.
"Thomas Paine proposed one in 1791.
"In 1944, FDR included the right to a living wage job in his Second Bill of Rights and his Republican opponent promised state-ensured employment.
"The Universal Declaration of Human Rights enshrined the right to work and philosophers Rawls and Dewey advocated government provide enough work.
"LBJ deliberated a JG and Martin Luther King Jr., demanded one."

Since US Capitalism prefers extracting wealth as opposed to producing wealth leading to a situation where median household income today, adjusted for inflation, is lower than it was in 1989, it becomes clear that US capitalism no longer delivers the goods for a majority of its citizens.
The democratic solution calls for government to provide what the private sector is no longer capable of providing.

Can you think of a time when that's happened? To make a few of its citizens filthy rich by stealing from the rest?If the purpose of government is not to make its citizens happy what is the purpose of government?
Or to make the rest happy by stealing from a few?

In fact, government has been interfering in the US labor market for the benefit of capital for generations:Sounds outlandish, doesn't it?

Here's the problem this idea ignores. That in order for someone have a job guaranteed by government, the government either has to subsidize the job so that a business can afford to pay the wages. Or all business must be owned and operated by government to fulfill this guarantee.
As we see in France where labor laws make it nearly impossible to discharge and employee, it creates high labor and benefit costs which are subsidized by government. Also with the limited number of available jobs, unemployment, especially among the young and the immigrant community is in excess of 20%.
In other words you are proposing that the government manipulate the labor marketplace..
I cannot think of a more dangerous thing to desire.
In every single instance where government interferes in the labor marketplace, the results have been a disaster.
Should we blame Obama or Wellpoint? Can you think of a time when that's happened?Or to make the rest happy by stealing from a few?
ACA is the latest example. But it goes on all the time.

Surely, you've noticed those who extract or inherit wealth are useless ticks sucking the life out of the productive economy...r>g, remember? To make a few of its citizens filthy rich by stealing from the rest?If the purpose of government is not to make its citizens happy what is the purpose of government?
So you are not intelligent enough to know the difference between business and theft??
Why the hatred for corporations and Hedge Funds??
Not got enough intelligence as these other people??
Can't come up with an idea to make money??
Can't find backers who can see money in you visions??
Not capable of running such an enterprise??
Not capable of procuring Buildings / infrastructure / equipment ??
Just where do your failures lie?? You see all these corporations and hedge funds that you would like to label as thieves are all success stories capable of being repeated by anyone who has some ingenuity and self worth!!

Corporations aren't mentioned in the Constitution but they are currently being used by the richest 1% of individuals to influence the behavior of government. Most of that influence is in direct contradiction to what's in your best interest, assuming you're not among the richest 0.1% of the population. You may not be interested in the details, but that won't exempt you from the consequences.Sounds outlandish, doesn't it?

I want NOTHING form government other than what the US Constitution permits it to do.
"Involuntary unemployment is barbaric. In the wealthiest country in history, almost 30 million people wish they had full-time work. But, as always, there arenÂ’t enough jobs. And because economic security requires decent work, itÂ’s unsurprising that 50 million people are poverty-stricken and 16 million children are hungry. If your govt is cuba, venezuela, nicaragua, north korea, russia or china perhaps.....those progressive utopias will surely open their collective arms for another "revolucionary" marxist douchebag ...
