Young People Can't be Trusted With Reporting on MLB History

So, we have a guy judging the best overall player by only hitting stats, and another guy using team accomplishments.

Players statistics are affected by the parks they play in and the team they have around them.

Mays, for instance, played at Candlestick park which had a ferocious wind that blew frum left field towards right and just knocked down the balls his that way. Aaron, on the other hand, played in band boxes that made home runs easy. Had the two been on the opposite teams, Mays would have far outdistanced Aaron.

Mays was at the top of the field in ALL facets of the game and not just some. No other player on the list can say that.

You cannot compare stats and athletes to todays STUDS.
The moment you try you run into other factors. Such as....Ruth, Aaron, Gherig, etc... rarely faced relief pitchers. They often faced gassed pitchers who had thrown 120 pitches already.

The players today are just better. They are conditioned better, the pitchers are tougher and there are more of them, etc....

Even fielding stats can be deceptive. Players with limited range often have higher fielding percentages than players with better range, and so they end up making fewer plays for outs.

Who do these folks really want on their team -- I guy who makes 1000 plays with only 7 errors, or the fellow who makes 1100 plays on the same batted balls but makes 12?

Mantle was not anywhere near the fielder. Mays had a gun for an arm. In 12 or 13 series, Mantle should have had a bunch of homers. Mays had 139 more home runs lifetime.

You are entitled to your opinion, but you are wrong.
HA HA HA. Mantle was every bit as good a fielder as any centerfielder who ever played the game, INCLUDING MAYS.

I gave the stats on Home run AVERAGE, with Mantle the clear winner. You obviously are unable to participate in a forum like this.
Sorry I'm not spending my good time talking to idiots.

i wondered what happened to johnny.....do you know what offense the poor guy committed?...
Not sure, but he had at least one sock (zafira cherry).

Johnny and I are on another forum, which is where I learned his back story. Are you familiar?

Johnny was in the army. His bad behavior resulted in a court martial. His dilemma was how to handle his military legacy. OTOH, he was court martialed. On the other hand, he refused to be bitter because of all the time he invested.

His resolution was concocting this bizarre story about how he worked under the JAG Major General. This was the very JAG general whose subordinate prosecuted Jonny. This general is not a household name, but fairly well known in military circles. The whole thing was crazy bizarre.
