AYKM - Are You Kidding Me ? Pheeew!
Major League Baseball team New York Mets Have just given a 26 year old guy (Juan Soto) $765 Million to play for them on a 15 year contract. This is the most ever. That is more than 3/4 of a
BILLION $$$$$$$$$$.
I'm sorry folks. But $765 Million for the UNKNOWN ? What if this guy gets a career ending injury, and is unable to play at all, after 2025 ? Or to play at a very reduced level ?
Even if he continues healthy through the next 15 years, at the same level he's playing at, that level, in now way, justifies $765 Million. Yikes!
At present, Soto has a
career batting average of .285. That is mediocre.
Let's look at power - Extracting his 2020 season, when he had only 154 at bats, he has
averaged 31 Home runs per year. Good, but not great. Not $765 Million great, that is.
Reliability -
averaged 92 RBIs over 6 seasons. Again good, but nowhere near great.
Just to put just this in perspective
1. Ted Williams over his ENTIRE career earned (in 2025 $$$) the sum of $43 Million. That is about 1/18 of what Soto is getting just for 15 years (if he even plays that long)
In comparison of their first 6 years >>>
Soto batting avg - .285
Williams batt avg - .353
Soto Home Runs - 188
Williams Home Runs - 197
Soto RBIs - 555
Williams RBIs - 752
If this comparison were done with Stan Musial, Willie Mays, or Mickey Mantle, results would be about similar.
Juan Soto becomes the highest paid player in MLB history with a 15-year, $765 million deal.
