Xi Jinping vows Chinese 'reunification' with Taiwan in New Year speech

No squabble is met with the war that the CCP promise. The communists won the civil.wars.thanks to help from Russia. 80 Years have passed and Taiwan has.chosen their path. The fate of freedom in Hong Kong has woken up any Taiwanese who had false, romantic views of what living under the CCP would really consist of.

I guess.

Why is this America's problem again?

Because we know it won't be the Canadians rushing over to get a bunch of boats sunk to the bottom of the sea

All of the West is responsible for fueling Chinas rise and the CCP's expansion of influence while suppressing citizens rights.

It will be up to the West to halt this rise and expansion of influence.

It will be the same letter written to mothers of sons lost on D-Day or at the Chosin Reservoir

Freedom is never cheap and your son died for a just cause

Except whose the Democracy here?
Not Vietnam.
Not the Philippines, who just re-elected the son of the last dictator.

A crappy little Island in the South China sea isn't a just cause. It's an absurdity.

There is a film on Youtube that every lib trump hater should see

Its about the greatest political figure of the 20th Century, Winston Churchill

He’s honored today even by libs as a great man and the savior of Great Britain in its Darkest Hour

But in 1940 he was reviled as much or more as trump is today

Ask people from India how they feel about Churchill.

Uh, guy, China is a lot more open than you think it is. Certainly a lot more open than it was under Mao (who most Chinese still revere), but I've watched Chinese newscasts, and frankly, they don't look terribly different than ours. Maybe a little less vapid.

Congrats, can we return to this century?
Human nature does not change

Churchill was exactly the right man for the time, though many at the time could not see it

Even though he is not even a pimple on the ass of the great man at this moment, trump is in exactly the same position Churchill was then

And I dont want to follow the example of Lord Halifax and Nevill Chamberlin

I didnt say democracy

My word was “freedom”

But in fact Taiwan is both free and democratic

Just the sort of nation we should embrace as a friend and ally rather that the inhuman monsters ruling china

Right. Go and visit Tibet or any other number of forbidden areas in which you need a "Tour Group" in order to visit. How about hotels which cannot accept foreign visitors?

They allow the minimum they need to ensure plenty of cash is injected into their economy. Basically major urban hubs.

Once they don't feel the need for foreign investment and industries, they will pillage as they please.

Trump's second term will be a bigger fail than his first one.

China isn't Nazi Germany. Not by a long shot.

Actually, Churchill's insistence on continuing the war (when he probably could have negotiated a peace in 1940 or 1941) resulted in the post-war collapse of the British Empire.

There's a reason the Brits voted him out before the war even completely ended.

I think the british voters were exhausted by 6 years of war and looking for a quick pick-me-up that did not last long

Later they voted Churchill back into office

Okay, except that "internal conflict" never really ended.

Taiwan claims to be the "Republic of China" to this very day.

They held on to China's UN seat and Veto until 1971.
All true. But let's not transfer responsibility for it to the rest of the world. China is not a 3 year old. ;)

Guy, I've been hearing about the "Scary Chinese" since the 1970s.

Now the only thing Chinese that scares me is my wife's cooking.

And his second term was short and forgettable. The Empire was done at that point.

Naw, a waste is fretting about China and Taiwan when we are about to blow up our own country with Cheeto Hitler.

Chiang Kai-shek did indeed move his government to Taiwan and claim mainland china as part of his territory

After his death his political party the Kuomintang attempted to rule Taiwan as a dictatorship up until about 25 years ago

But the current popularly supported democrat party has renounced its claim to mainland china

All that remains is to revise the Constitution to reflect Taiwanese independence

However that means a war that the Taiwanese want to avoid

Taiwan still calls itself "The Republic of China", doesn't sound like they gave up their claims to me.

Taiwan tries to revise its constitution to be "the Republic of Taiwan"; China will invade, and rightfully so.

just like the US would step in if Hawaii tried to call itself "The Republic of Hawaii" and assert independence.

what Freedom?

Vietnam is a dictatorship.
Brunei is a despotic monarchy.
Malaysia is a monarchy with a despotic leadership
the Philippines are "technically" a democracy, but they keep electing thugs like Duarte and Bongbong Marcos.

Crappy little Islands aren't worth one American life.

You claim to be pro American but in fact are a shill for china

No, my DD214 says I'm pro-America.

My common sense tells me that starting a war with a country that has five times as many people as we do and nukes over some crappy little islands is just.. stupid. Certainly not in our best interest.

Meh. They’ve been saying that every year for, what, sixty years now?

Who cares?
