If they are waiting for symptoms before taking meds for their high blood pressure and high cholesterol, the first symptom that they will have will either be a heart attack or stroke.

My hub is on 3 different types of HB meds side effects are bad, he won't take the cholesterol one anymore. He hates to take them and it is a pain in the butt! He takes it but he is a strong person too. I would suspect depression is the cause of them not wanting to take it or too much of a hassle in their minds. No excuse to you or I but some weak minded people that's what they'll do.

Depression is always possible.

But I think it is more of an issue of lack of priorities and denial.

The couple I am referring to is a man who weights 350lbs and a woman who weight 250lbs. I don't think they care much about their bodies.

Are they older too? I bet they just don't want to change their lifestyle in any way shape or form. (pun intended)

Yes, the cost of ciggies around here is like $6/pack some over $7 ! And, one guy, while puffing on a cigarette I hear complaining about the price of gas at $2.39/US Gal and he pays $6 for 'weed products' and floor sweepings, too friggen funny.And as one person posted, standing in line with food stamps and texting on a new Blackberry or other high tech costly device, OH, and the Bluetooth in the ear like a BORG in Star Trek. So many examples, so little time.

I am sure the same guy goes out and pays like $30, for say a cartridge of black ink,usually about .15oz, which comes to about $25,600/ US Gallon! Some of our priorities are slightly scrambled at times.

40s. But in certain populations here in Maine, that is equavalent to early 70s.

Hmm.. sounds like they should be giving up the $4.00 box of cookies in order to pay for their meds. In all seriousness though, I think some of the mentality that allows people to say they can't afford a necessity and yet willing buy luxuries is becoming more prevalent.
