Wouldn't it be nice if Washington surprised the American people with some extraordinary virtue in the first couple of months of this year? Three things I would like to see is first President Obama in his farewell speech in Chicago open the door and make it easy for Democrat members of Congress to change his signature legislation the Affordable Care Act. Wouldn't it be nice if he acknowledged all the mandates in the law created health insurance that is too expensive that the exchanges are turning into places where only Americans with pre-existing conditions and/or are getting federal subsidies will be buying health insurance. It would really be an extraordinarily virtuous thing for him to say during this speech that the
Democrat Party should agree to dramatically roll back the mandates; the framework of the ACA is the ideal framework for a health care system because it is a marketplace solution to the 600 pound gorilla problem in health care which is how to pay for healthcare for Americans with serious health problems and the ACA goal of creating large insurance pools in the exchanges to spread out the costs is the right course but you have to be extremely sparing on the laws mandates because they drive up the costs of the exchanges insurance plans. Secondly, wouldn't if be nice if the Republican House caucus did not vote to obstruct American democracy to curtail America's wonderful right to protest; the House could do this by voting down this plan to fine members for taking over the House floor or streaming floor protest with their cellphones. It is often said that the White House is the People's House well it should also be said that the Congress is the People's Hall and if the American people through select representatives want to hold a rally or protest in that Hall then so be it, Democracy is messy get over it! It is not like the Speaker of the House couldn't get control if he or she really wanted to if it was a takeover that didn't have widespread support or if it was such a takeover but a compelling reason existed it should end the Speaker of the House could order the Congressional police to handcuff the members that took over the House floor and physically and physically remove them from the House Chamber. Third, what's this with the Senate Democrat leadership dragging out the confirmation hearings for cabinet positions by saying the Republicans can only hold hearings on two nominees a week. Congress has a lot of work it needs to do for the American people when things get tough for ordinary Americans they sometimes work six days a week the Senate during this confirmation process should be working six days a week clearing three nominees a week. It is uncontested amongst reasonable people that the ACA has to be at least dramatically changed the average price increase for health insurance for this year will be twenty-five percent this cannot go on period. The Senate like the House better not try any shenanigans here health insurance is too important to Americans it is a life and death issue whatever you folks come up with in terms of bills you are going to hold hearings and you are going to subpoena the major health insurance companies and have them tell the American people what type of health insurance they will be getting from the new law what the benefits or coverage will be and what the costs will be and give the American people a chance to speak out on what they hear this is going to take some time Congress needs to be on board with this!

The american public blames politicians so it doesn't have to take a long hard look at itself.
