Still, there were no charges filed, and they did not even make it to the ICE detention center before releasing her at the police station. WHY? The Feds intimidated by a small town Sherriff? NO WAY. Right or wrong, they eat small town law enforcement for breakfast and walk away with a satisfied burp. THEN WHY? They never intended to arrest and charge, (making it basically an illegal stop, to infringe her rights to observe government authorities carrying out their duties) knowing they could never get it past a jury, anywhere in the country? MAYBE. OTHER WHY? Orders from higher, meant to diffuse more bad publicity on operations perceived questionable (if not outright illegal) and against even internal policies and procedures, due to recent mistakes made? QUITE LIKELY.
It is interesting to note, if you or I follow one person around recording video of all of their activities, it is regarded as stalking. People recognize stalking as always a violation of ill defined rights of privacy, at best, a prelude to action that could endanger an individual. This is not the case with observing US Government operatives, operating in public. WHY? People were brought up, with the concerns of the framers of the Constitution, not to trust the Federal Government to automatically do the right thing and value the rights of citizens. WHY? Too many examples down through history of normally benign governments around the world acting with tyranny, and disregard for the rights of citizens as people, often leading to tragic ends, ethnic and political cleansing resulting in the deaths of thousands, even millions and war. WHY ELSE? Our Constitution was geniusly created to self correct at the hands of the people, by creating defined Rights for protection from big government overreach. WHY ELSE? Many times, our own Government has ignored the rights of our citizens simply, often turning out very badly for citizens, momentarily powerless to resist, so these breaches by the Government increasing beyond normal, prompt the "Slippery Slope" response, to avoid escalation of government to the "no going back" point in the destruction of rights, observed in other countries with less stringent protection of the people, in the courts, than we have maintained here, to avoid the power of Government forces to change the course of our country from a form of democratic representative form to autocratic rule by a single person or group of elites running the government and the country.
