That's not true at all. People claim to be screwed over every time they do something dumb, and face the consequences of their actions.
Very few regulations are due to someone being screwed over. And even then, those regulations usually create more screwed over people, than they ever help.
It's like CARD act. You fail to pay your balances on time, and they double your interest rate, because you are now a default risk.

See, the problem with the left view, is that you think that the reason people charge differing rates is all about "greed". In reality, there are market forces that cause those rates.
When you mandate that two groups of people be charged the same, the company will never lose money by lowering the price, to the lower of the two groups. Instead, they are going to raise the price of the group that originally had the lower cost, up to the price of the higher.
In the 1800s, the trains had the long-haul short-haul differential. The cost to buy a ticket from Chicago to New York, was drastically more expensive if you bought a non-stop "long-haul" ticket. If you instead, bought short-haul tickets, from one stop to another to another to another, the price was a fraction of the cost.
The noble leftists of the day, arguing to prevent gouging of customers, passed a law preventing the long-haul short-haul differential.
What do you think happened? They raised the prices of the short-haul tickets, up to the cost of the long-haul tickets.
Now everyone can be screwed, not just those that want a non-stop trip. Well done Lefitsts.
