Merriam-Webster usually picks out a word of the year and in 2020 they had no trouble in picking out -- pandemic.
Other sources had COVID-19, WFH (work from home), lockdown, circuit-breaker, support bubbles, key workers, furlough, Black Lives Matter and moonshot. Maybe the politicos had election fraud. Some of these are more than one word, but who's counting? You get the idea.
