When shown the simple facts that uprotected sex is on the rise once again due to AIDS no longer being seen as an instant death sentence, people hem and haw and get all defensive about it. Part of that is rightly due to posters such as stevie boy using it as anti-gay propaganda, but it doesnt remove the facts that.

1) Gay anal sex is one of the easiest methods of HIV transmission out there
2) The AIDS infection rate among gay men is increasing again due to unprotected sex among gay men.

Anal intercourse is riskier because blood vessels are closer to the surface of the skin. So means of entry to the bloodstream is easier than vaginal or oral. Oral can be even riskier though if people don't understand safer sex methodology like not brushing their teeth before sex (and thus having raw gums and such.) But above all the key is not ejaculating inside, and knowing that whether you feel it or not, most guys are ejaculating a little bit prior to the main climax (pre-cum et al.)

HIV infection rates are going up because people are less fearful of HIV now than when it first appeared. It's a false sense of security thing. And the meds available now make it seem like a manageable condition instead of death sentence.

the problem comes when women are in what they assume is a monogamous relationship.... and see no reason to protect themselves from STD's . The issue gets worse when the men are not just cheating with other women.... but running on the down low with men.

The major issue with the mentality that HIV is a treatable condition is that it currently is, however bugs have the ability to mutate to different forms, and if a less treatable form comes about, its back to the bad old days.

The 'bug-hunter' crowd is an infintesimal minority. Have always enjoyed sex without fear by simply not sleeping around. And getting tested before every new relationship and requiring new lovers to be tested as well. May sound like a strange idea for a date, but if the pay off is great sex without fear I've yet to meet someone not willing to get tested. Have sex 'blind' is I agree is profoundly stupid.
