The Constitution does not require the House of Representatives to stay continually in session, hoping for a handful of Senate democrats who are holding up funding the nation to change their minds.

Speaker Johnson has stated many times that the Republicans are continuing with their duties. They are talking to their voters.Offering them help during this trying time. Also, they are taking stock of how their voters in their individual districts view this shutdown.

Are their voters wavering?

Do their voters want them to capitulate to the demands of Democrats? Such as free healthcare for people who crossed the border unlawfully and were granted "a lawful status" by the previous administration, and half a trillion dollars to the corporation for public broadcasting?

The purpose of such a shutdown to make voters on the other side suffer so much that they beg their elected officials to agree to the demands, correct? Do you think it is working? Or does Schumer need to do something else to the American people, to make them comply?

Maybe republican voters really are ready to give up. if so, don't you want Republican Congressfolk to know it?

There is the perfectly legitimate reason that there is no funding authorized for anything except the salaries, so they have to sit at home like all the other non-essential fedemps.

The other reason is to avoid giving Senate Dems false hope. If the House is in session, the Senate may think that - any day now - the House will produce a spending bill that provides free healthcare to illegal aliens who were given legal status by the Autopen Administration, free healthcare to able-bodied people who refuse to work or do community service, and half a trillion dollars to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.

Crazy that Schumer thinks that, but he says that's the only way he will allow the nation to be funded.

Wrong again Bonehead. The WH has nothing to do with passing budgets, and in order for one party to pass bills exclusively, they need a super-majority, which the GOP doesn't have.

EIGHT times now, the democrats like Schumer have BLOCKED passage of any kind of budget including even a simple CR in order to just keep the government open until they work out an agreement.
