WINNING!!!!! DOW up over 2000 points in one day

It's more volatility in the stock market, as I expected. Long term investors ignore these kind of bleeps and blips, and speculators/gamblers are happy campers, because they feed on volatility.

Trade deficits don’t mean we are being ripped off. Trump really doesn’t understand what he’s talking about but he has convinced the information cultists.

Having a large trade deficit means we are growing faster economically and thus consuming more than other nations. It's something to be proud of. Trump sees this as a bad and proposes we halt our economic growth with a potential recession and stock market crash. This is the brain dead thinking of a man who bankrupted 6 businesses and forfeited a 400 million inheritance.

Having a large trade deficit is no different than irresponsible spending on your credit card and only paying the interest ad infinitum, using only your future earning potential as security. Soon your debt overwhelms your earning potential and ability to pay even the interest in full. That is exactly where we are as a nation. These trade inequities need to be balanced NOW. If you can't see this, you are either misinformed or worse yet, not worthy of having a credit card.

Uh, no, that's a terrible analogy. Since when have trade deficits ever caused debt? When would that ever happen since we pay directly for everything that is imported here?

We have a large trade deficit because we're 99% larger, by far, than every country we buy from and we need the things we buy from them to sustain us. Do you think that placing tariffs on things that people buy and need will make our economy better? Raising prices on everything and in rapid pace will stifle consumer spending, leading to a recession and market collapse. Just the china tariffs alone are going to put millions of people who work in that sector out of work, and collapse untold thousands of small businesses. This has even lead to a US treasury bond sell off, and a 42 year record spike in 30 year old bond yields, which could trigger an even bigger selloff, which would then lead to an economic catastrophe. For what exactly?

Trade inequities don't need to be balanced and can't. A small nation, sometimes a poor one, but even if not, cannot possibly buy equal amounts in trade from the US as we would be able to buy from them. To suggest otherwise illustrates just a complete and total lack of common sense, much less economics.

Another Trump hater. It will take some short-term pain to reverse the Dems’ approach to letting America get ripped off, and putting Americans last.

He’s already solved the illegal alien invasion that Biden created.

No one was being "ripped off." This is Trump's idiotic explanation in order for him to enact these dumb tariffs.

Of course we were being ripped off. We have to pay tariffs to countries in order to help THEM, and we didn’t have tariffs to help US.

Companies making a fortune by selling their products to Americans shouldn’t be producing them in other countries, giving jobs to people of those other countries. They should be employing AMERICANS.

NOTE: Google too biased to get basic information.

I am trying to find which countries charge America tariffs, and all that pops up from Google is about Trump’s new tariffs (to make him look bad, of course).

Can anyone find a list of the countries to which we’ve been paying tariffs, yet we have not been charging tariffs to them?

China signaled that it's raising its tarrifs to 125% and holding them there. Meaning American goods are no longer welcome in China.

Gold is spiking as Japan dumps more US Treasuries....and there are fears that China will do the same.

The dollar has dropped in value against other currencies to 99....first time it's been below 100 in a while. Was at 105+ when Trump took office. While inflation takes a nosedive....that's actually deflation....very scary stuff if not controlled.

.

In the six months I spent in Western Montana, I became well acquainted with huckleberry lore. My brother had a LOT of huckleberries in the freezer, as I had arrived just past picking season. Made huckleberry jam and used it to top good vanilla ice cream.

A treat, by all means!

Your pie looks wonderful!

Like blueberries but more so! YUMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!! Every store had a rack of huckleberry edibles and cosmetics. I had huckleberry lip gloss.

Here’s a partial list of companies making a fortune off of Americans, and who are bringing production back to America to avoid tariffs.

That means more jobs for Americans, and fewer welfare people dependent on government charity. No wonder Democrats are panicked.

You're misinformed. Yes, the US has tariffs.

Not in equivalent measure.

I know it’s hard for you leftists to put the interests of Americans ahead of foreigners, but get used to it. New sheriff in town.

And who knows? Once Trump cleans the area of the criminal illegal aliens making things unsafe, the police will tell us it’s safe again to walk the bike path near my house.

Sometimes yes. Sometimes no.Tariffs are never exactly 1:1 and it wouldn’t make sense to do so. To have any effect, tariffs would need to apply to a product another country is actually selling and a product the US is manufacturing.

For example, we’ve had a 25% tariff on light duty trucks to protect the most profitable product line for domestic automakers.

Regardless, tariffs are generally quite low with a lot of countries having few tariffs on any products. For example, Israel has not had any tariffs on 98% of products from the US for the last 40 years when Reagan negotiated a free trade agreement.

Why would you single out Israel as an example? You Dems miss a chance to make Israel and Jews look bad, do you?

Here’s a more complete list:

Amazing buying opportunity! If I had more ready cash, I’d invest more.

That’s how I was able to retire early. Bought beaten-down stocks in late 2008, and retired early in 2011.

What the hell are you talking about? In what way did my statement make Jews look bad?

I brought it up because when Netanyahu visited and discussed trade, the prior agreement was mentioned so it was on my mind.

We could discuss similar trade agreements like with South Korea or the EU. Tariffs are already really low but you misinformed sheep don’t know that.

Because of all the countries not paying tariffs, you zoomed in on Israel. And yes…..double standards applied to Israel makes Jews look bad, which is why antisemitism is sky-high.
