Just read this on National Review Online (P.S. don't tell Pale Rider, I'd hate to be the one to break the poor guy's heart! )

One of our original arsenals of democracythe New Haven
factory that armed generations of Americans with Winchester
rifleswill close on March 31. Winchesters will be available in
the future, but in all likelihood none will be manufactured in the
United States. Thats a shame, because this brand name is so
closely associated with American history: The Winchester 73,
a lever-action rifle, is often called the gun that won the West.
In recent years, Winchester rifles have been made by U.S.
Repeating Arms, a subsidiary of a Belgian company, in a licensing
deal with the Olin Corporation, which purchased a struggling
Winchester enterprise in 1931. The plant in New Haven
was not operating anywhere near capacity. Although the job of
winning the West has long since ended, the fight to spread freedom
and democracy goes on in other places. Would that the
weapons we need for that urgent task perform as well as the
Winchester.
