Will men return to the moon?

Essentially, man first walked on the moon because of political reasons, and not really scientific ones. Simply put, those scientists getting the US to the moon were all pawns in the Cold War against the Soviets to beat the Soviets to the moon. It was all for propaganda purposes, something the US wanted badly since the Soviets beat the US into space.

But today, is there still enough political motivation to pay scientists to return to the moon? Apparently there is.

Sources within NASA have leaked a plan for the US to return to the moon, not to beat the Russians this time, but to put the first black woman on the moon, all to appease the DEI, PC crowd, ideology that the US is now shoving down the throats of every country in the world, as we see with the money flowing from USAID.

The US will 'plant the American flag on the planet Mars and even far beyond,' Trump tells Congress

"And through it all, we are going to rediscover the unstoppable power of the American spirit, and we are going to renew unlimited promise of the American dream," Trump said.

Trump's comments, which closed a nearly two-hour speech to Congress, echoed his past calls to send astronauts to Mars on the campaign trail. He also celebrated the space feats of SpaceX and its founder Elon Musk during his election night victory speech in November, and hailed the Red Planet again during his inauguration, when he said the United States would pursue its "manifest destiny into the stars."

The SpaceX CEO has long said sending astronauts to Mars is a primary goal for his spaceflight company. SpaceX currently flies NASA astronauts to and from the International Space Station and is building the giant Starship megarocket to land Artemis astronauts on the moon by 2027.

Like the moon, why go to Mars?

Because it would make us interplanetary, and it's a step towards getting to the belt and the moons of Jupiter and Saturn.

Humans always need a frontier, and our two remaining ones are the deep ocean and space beyond low earth orbit.

Ok.

So far we have this as a reason for going as well as going to Mars

Anyone else?

No one cares about the first Black female to go?
I don’t mind some token trips to the moon

But I think manned space exploration is a waste. Too much money spent on sustaining human beings and safely returning them

R2D2 instead of Buck Rogers

With AI, unmanned exploration can do so much more without needing constant direction from earth.

Unmanned drones can explore for a decade and nobody cares when they die out

Stop it you two. What's the real reasons to go into outer space?

1. This planet won't last forever
2. Valuable resources on Mars and the Meteorbelt

Otherwise, why waste the time or money? This planet is the best thing we got going for us.

Robots don't inspire people, human boots on the ground does.

When the US went to the moon, the entire government was galvanized to fight the USSR.

Today, the government is divided with no such will to go to Mars to promote the US like it did in the 1960's.

As a result, I highly doubt it will happen.

Again, humans always need a "somewhere" else to inspire, and the last two we have are deep space and the deep oceans.

Now we have private enterprise involved as well.

Inspire to send NASA more money

There is nothing men or women can do that an AI probe cannot.

We will face the same problem we had with Apollo
Public says …… Been there done that and loses interest

Except be actual human beings on the Moon, or Mars, or Titan.

Then you go to the next moon/asteroid/planet, then the next.

Artemis is a huge DEI project. Just as the original race to the moon was an extension of the Cold War, Artemis isn't about the goal of landing astronauts on the moon, rather 'who' it is that's landing on the moon.

Russia is not a Superpower anymore.

There are reasons to go to Mars.

  • China's Chang'e-6 spacecraft landed on the far side of the moon in May 2024, and returned to Earth with lunar samples
  • China plans to land astronauts on the moon by 2030
  • China's Tiangong space station is one of the largest and most advanced space stations in orbit
    • China has sent multiple crews to the space station
    • China is building constellations of commercial communications satellites and remote sensing systems
      • China's goal is to compete with SpaceX's Starlink constellation
      • China landed a spacecraft on Mars in 2021 and released the Zhurong rover
        • China has plans to obtain and retrieve samples from Mars and complete a mission to the Jupiter system

Again, humans always need a "somewhere" else to inspire, and the last two we have are deep space and the deep oceans.
Both better done by drones

How much more do we learn from a space telescope than deep space probes?

We send AI Robots to Mars and with 3D printers they make us a home. Before we send Gayle King and Katy Perry.

Good for them

We don’t have to do all space exploration

I think the public will quickly tire of it

Nope.

You are assuming this is an either or argument.

In the end, people want to explore, not have some robot do it for them all the time.

There is no point in using a telescope to look at Proxima Centauri. Scientists tried to get me to look at it once I refused. I said send me to it in a Spaceship so I can get a good look.

With current technology, reaching Proxima Centauri, which is 4.2 light-years away, would take over 70,000 years, even with the fastest spacecraft.
