Do you think the nonessential laid off workers will retrain? Will waitresses and hair stylists learn to become auto mechanics or plumbers?

Most of the covid unemployed will go back to their jobs after the restrictions are lifted....

If they be a job to go back to.
If its sooner rather than later their jobs will still be there....Is that why the blue state governors are dragging their feet?....more protest scheduled for next weekend...people are getting hot mad and they are aiming their rage at dem governors....

A lot of the jobs won't be there any more. And the longer this takes, the more jobs will disappear.

Further, a lot of the covid unemployed will say the hell with working for Hank's Haberdashery, or Tony's Shoe Repair, or Gene's Nuisance Bar, and just pursue a new career as a Walmart Associate.

Does it matter she is using the wrong tool for the job?

It ain't that wrong if she's using it for a hammer...

Most of my cars had beat marks all over under the hood cuz I have a temper...

See what you get for not looking like her you could have someone beat the car for yous.

I never stopped working through the pandemic people were home and wanted repairs to their brick, block and concrete along with more masonry to be added. This winter was a sleeper though in terms of business...Now it is time to start the summer job and I have another cat that wants me to do IT consulting from home...It's gonna be a busy year...

Must be why she needs training?
In the army those things were called a specialist 5th class tool. I only made it to spec 4 so I never got one in my tool crib...How are people going to retrain without money?

Yep. Many businesses will work with fewer people now that the economy has stagnated. Need the New Deal part deux.

The economy is F_U_C_K_E_D....they will be lucky to get a job shoveling shit at a rodeo.

Things right now aren't good, no doubt about it.

However, the whole world, more or less, is in the same funk and all the infrastructure is still there. If America can get out of this in a hurry, we can easily motor right out this and bury the Europeans and other competitors.

There will be no hurry. This economy will take years to recover. Infrastructure does not matter if there is no liquidity, and no demand to move it. Revenues are through the floor, debts are piling up, many businesses run on a very thin margin, most in the service industry (72% of US economy).
There has been very little to no debt forgiveness for mortgages, auto loans, consumer debt, college loans. Those that have been given require lump sum payments at the end of a three or four month period.
The government cannot cover all of that...
As defaults start to pour in insurance companies covering those defaults will fail....the housing market will plummet...as that happens consumer spending will contract...and the dominoes will really start falling.
Retraining...into what? Ditch diggers? Panhandlers?
This is going to be VERY VERY fucking bad. Prepare yourself.

Even if people do get into something different, would they be able to do well enough in the chosen profession? How many mechanics does our planet need? How many electricians? Those who get their income from being on the road with singers, is there a job for them anywhere during this time when being in their normal element is not an option?

God bless you and those who are struggling financially always!!!
