There's a large segment of Americans who don't pay close attention to the daily activities of all the hyper-partisan conservatives as they throw everything and anything against the wall in the hope that something (anything, really) will stick. The fact of the matter is that sooner or later something will get traction. It's not necessarily because there's any merit to the charge. It's simply the laws of probability.

Well, once something starts to get a little traction, regardless of merit, we shouldn't be surprised when we see two things as a result of that traction. One is a somewhat feigned RW conservative outrage at some supposed injustice. What that emotion truly represents is RW excitement that they may have finally found their political holy grail of the one issue that they hope will result in a reversal of their political fortunes which no other issue has managed to do for them. Certainly not their agenda. And not any OTHER alleged scandal, either. Well, as a result, all those other supposed outrages will disappear off the media radar screen as conservatives engage in what I would describe as a media astro turfing campaign on TV, radio, and print.

The second thing we shouldn't be surprised to see is media competition as everyone flocks to a story (again, regardless of merit) because the outlets think it will be a ratings bonanza of some kind even as everyone is trying to break the latest tidbit of a supposed 'revelation' about events which might actually be fairly innocuous or even wholly innocent.

Frankly, I say let them chase their dream of a rainbow which they think will lead to their political pot of gold in the form of derailing Obama's current administration and/or Hillary's supposed future hopes of winning the WH because this is EXACTLY what the electorate hates about DC politics AND because the approval ratings of Congress is at a record low of around 15%. And I say that because if there ends up being no REAL scandal, conservative Republicans will have so MUCH mud on their faces and dirt on their hands that the electorate might just decide that they've had enough of this nonstop BS and turn them out of office in droves in 2014.

So, like I say, let them go for it.
