FYI, Wiesenthal had a history of fabrications, exaggerations, and downright lies. This is an issue among scholars, Bauer included. Are you even familiar with Bauer?

The 6 million number appeared in many publications long before WWII. I'm sure some of that is just circular referencing, but some is not. Wiesenthal just culled this convenient number.

I started looking at various articles in library databases like Newsbank. Sure enough, there are loads of them. I will post a few.
