I went online and did private healthcare insurance. The excess/co pay was £250. So the quote came out at £54 per month. If I increase the excess to the max, £1000, then monthly payments drop to £47 per month.

So I can have state and private healthcare at a fraction of the cost compared to the US.

I questioned a couple of nurses from British Columbia, Canada over thirty years ago about the free health care in that country. The confirmed that, yes, Canada had free health care, but the heart surgery that I had just gotten after a three day wait might have had a wait of a year or longer and that was over thirty years ago.

False equivalency. Lets compare the useless social programs we waste money on. The process of funding government controlled healthcare never works. The NHS in the UK is collapsing Drs leaving and its out of funds. Wait times are in months even years. They have higher taxes a VAT tax and its still not enough.
Capitalism always forces the best service at the lowest cost until government gets involved. Profits define excellence because people are making choices. When its the government you have no choice you get screwed

It is said that in the Middle Ages, during the execution of thieves, other thieves would pick the pockets of those present. Some conclude from this that the death penalty and the entire system of punishment are meaningless, since people still manage to break the law despite the fear of punishment.
But they do not take into account the fact that without punishment, the number of crimes could be even higher.
The same applies to the state/government. I am absolutely certain that under capitalism, without the government, capitalists would steal everything, singing sweet songs about "free choice that people have.” Capitalism is about profit. Profit today, and preferably right now. Capitalists are unable and unwilling to plan for the long term.
