Back in medieval times people who were thought to be eccentric were burned as witches.
In victorian times the most famous institution was Bedlam. The carers at Bedlam used to open the doors every week so that nice people could go and watch the "crazies".

Napoleonic war veterans were forced to hobble around London selling matchbooks to keep a roof over their head.

Women couldnt vote. they couldnt even hold a bank account. Gays were jailed. Black folks were lynched and prevented from voting.

You know all this. Mankind has made progress over the centuries. None more so than the last century.

Do we want to go back as people ?

Shouldnt we look to protect the minorities in our societies ?

Shouldnt public services make accomodation for people who need more help ?
Shouldnt women get paid the same as men for the same work ?
Shouldnt ethnic minorities be protected from the racism we see still in our world ?
Shouldnt gay folk enjoy the same rights as anyone else ?

I find it difficult that I have to make this case but normality has left the building.
People who should know better now castigate DEI as an evil and not a benefit. That is beyond crazy.

We will all benefit from DEI at some stge in our lives.

Wa (sic) don't support DEI.

You can celebrate anything you want in Wales, Taint. In the US we celebrate meritocracy, intelligence and equality.

Homogeneity is our strength.

Do you believe in meritocracy?
I would love a meritocracy. DEI is a necessary tool to insure that. White racism and sexism.has always made that impossible in the US and farther afield.
Every step towards a meritocracy has had to be legislated for against opposition from entrenched conservatism.

Because the US was never about advancing white men at teh expense of others.
It literally was. From before the revolutionary war. people of colour were owned as property. Explain that in terms of meritocracy.

The US is by no means an outlier but you need to be honest at least.

As someone who is against DEI, I say no. But then, I don't believe for one minute that dismantling DEI will precipitate any of these injustices all over again.

Shouldn't we look to protect anyone in our societies?
Shouldnt public services make accomodation for people who need more help ?

Yes, for those willing to help themselves.
Shouldnt women get paid the same as men for the same work ?
Yes.
Shouldnt ethnic minorities be protected from the racism we see still in our world ?
Protect them from racial discrimination? Yes. But there's no way to protect anyone from racism, not even whites.
Shouldnt gay folk enjoy the same rights as anyone else ?

Yes.

Maybe some do "castigate DEI as an evil and not a benefit" but I don't. I am nevertheless against it because I will never view diversity and inclusion for its own sake as a practical and effective way to bring them about in a way that has any true meaning.
We will all benefit from DEI at some stge in our lives.

Apparently not straight white males.

Straight white males are the least respected demographic in this country right now and you alluded to this yourself in a later post where you said: "The US has never been a meritocracy. Ever. It has always been a refuge for straight white men."

As long as straight white men are seen as the authors of all things racist and evil, DEI will never truly be DEI in principle or spirit. It will be Diversity (excepting straight white males), Equity (for everyone except straight white males) and Inclusion (excluding white heterosexual males where convenient).

....

You think that the plantation class was doing what they did, so that they could benefit the rural white poor?

That's what your racial argument is claiming.

That the whites operated as a group, though the American government and system, to benefit WHITE MEN, as a group.

And that's dumb.

DEI doesn't do that anymore than marijuana, psilocybin and
LSD ENGLIGHTEN THE MIND

All white men were beneficiaries. Not least by the exclusion of people of colour from employment opportunities. The fact that some folk were too useless to take advantage of this is not germane.

Nope. The white poor suffered by having to compete with slave labor.

Your claim is clearly false, the moment it is examined at all.

Mmm, do you think that calling them names, is somehow an argument? lol.

You do, don't you?

Man, lefties are so used to not thinking, that they CAN'T make a supporting argument. At all.

Well you agree with a lot of what I am saying but not the principle. DEI is a corrective to abuse of the ruling majority. It just ensures the fair play missing from much of history.

Is the argument about what happened 200 years ago, or DEI vs Meritocracy of today?

You have me confused, Tommy, you argue one thing and then morph it to something entirely different.
Meritocracy is the best person for the job. Not considering the gender, or color, etc..
In other words, a level playing field.
