Why the fight for minimum wage?

For those who want the minimum wage to be increased.......why?

1) You do realize that businesses will only respond by increasing the cost of goods and services, right?

2) You do realize that increasing the minimum wage will have a substantial negative effect on small businesses, right?

3) You do realize that such an inhibition upon small businesses will result in increased market share being gained by large corporations as small businesses close shop, right?

4) You do realize that corporations will not settle for a smaller share of profits to pay for such an increase, because the people in charge are greedy bastards whose own income is tied to their ability to minimize labor costs, right?

So what do you hope to accomplish by supporting an increase in the minimum wage?

Liberals pander to the low class, constantly telling them "they are really looking out for them."

Reality is they are fucking them over with any increase in minimum wage because that means some of them will lose their job to pay for their co-workers' new wages. Also they will pay more for food, clothing, shelter, etc.

Let's see....minimum wage when I worked at Burger King back in the 80s was close or a little less than a meal there....the same is true today. The poor are just too stupid to follow along....

It's like anything with Dems, anti war, anti deficits, anti pollution, anti subsidies and anti corruption.. Once in power they sell out and redefine record wars, deficits, pollution, subsidies and corruption.

This is no different, Dems run on 20$ an hour but once in office they will drop it and keep doing policies that make the rich more rich and the poor more poor. Just look at the numbers under Obama, rich are more rich, poor are more poor.

The usual from Democrats...They can't run on Obama's record that for sure so they fall on their next best thing in their handbook of dirty politics, CLASS WARFARE...pitting the people in the country against each other...they pretty much have it perfected, unfortunately...Obama's campaigns were some of the dirtiest I had seen in my 40 years of voting..

When they have a base who just follows like sheep and re-elect the man who had over 7.5% unemployment his whole first term, don't expect anything else

It's going to more ugly from here on out

Why the fight to abolish the minimum wage, unless you intend to pay your employees less?

Also, the price of goods has been rising steadily for years while the minimum wage hasn't increased much at all. For corporations to blame the minimum wage for rising prices is ridiculous.

This is a ploy to get obamacare off the front page and get the GOP to look "evil" and possibly fight among themselves in congress over this bullshit.

They should ask why is Obama worried about minimum wage when he is giving most of those people subsidies for healthcare while costing the middle class thousands per family.....he will shut the fuck up at that point.

The GOP needs to sell to the middle class and rich who are being attacked by the Democraps with higher taxes, higher insurance, losing their doctors, etc.

Straw man.

What's your point? If we raise the minimum wage, the costs of goods and services will increase. Whether you like it or not, whether you approve or not.

Who is it that you deal with that earns minimum wage? And what is it that a minimum wage worker provides YOU that you couldn't afford a modest increase in the price so that the worker you evidently depend on for SOMETHING can make a little better living?

In other words; why are you such a tight ass?

Have you bothered to look at the current energy cost, there are many other factors driving the cost of goods besides wages.. The commies are just doing what they always do, use other peoples money to buy votes.

:eusa_eh:

Let's imagine for a moment that I am a billionaire. I'd be able to easily afford any increase in prices due to an increase in the minimum wage. There's just one thing.....this isn't about me.

Minimum wage workers are the ones who are supposed to benefit from an increase of the minimum wage. But how can they benefit, when all the prices of everything they need end up rising in response?

because the total failure of leftards politics for the last 5 years leaves them with the populist options only

It isn't necessarily that. If someone's income goes from 8/hr to 10/hr that's 25%. Prices are not rising 25%.
No, the issue is that for every person who sees a 25% increase in his pay, three others will see their pay go to zero.
If Democrats really were for poor people they would eliminate min wage altogether and let as many people in the labor pool as possible. Since they are big fucking hypocrites and economically illiterate they wont.

A big reason why people want an increase in the minimum wage:

The Center for Union Facts analyzed collective-bargaining agreements obtained from the Department of Labor's Office of Labor-Management Standards. The data indicate that a number of unions in the service, retail and hospitality industries peg their base-line wages to the minimum wage.

The Labor Department's collective-bargaining agreements file has a limited number of contracts available, so we were unable to determine how widespread the practice is. But the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union says that pegging its wages to the federal minimum is commonplace. On its website, the UFCW notes that "oftentimes, union contracts are triggered to implement wage hikes in the case of minimum wage increases." Such increases, the UFCW says, are "one of the many advantages of being a union member."
