Why no affordable housing?

Are you playing stupid, truly stupid, or lying?
I am trying my best to go along with you, without insulting you, just because you are MAGA.

No, you are playing stupid, which means you are lying.

The biggest reason we don't have enough "affordable housing" is because of all the illegals in our country.
There are about 20 million illegals in the country, who compete directly with 40 million poor Americans, for cheap apartments. If the illegals were all deported, the demand for cheap housing would drop by 33%, and prices would follow.

Right now, there is a cheap apartment building in an area 5 miles from where I live in an area overtaken by illegals. Out of curiosity, I looked up what they charge for a 3+bedroom apartment: it was $3500 a month. And the place is a dump!!

The owner gets away with this because 3 families of illegals, with 10 people, cram in and divide the rent multiple ways. If the illegals were gone, the rate would drop down to $2,000 (at most) and three individuals could share the apartment, or a young working couple with a couple of kids could do the same.

You are just a treasure trove of information. I had no idea Hispanics were crossing the Atlantic or Pacific to break into the other industrialize countries. But, you are a MAGA, so maybe you know where they are going. Personally, I thought we were just handy, without having to buy plane tickets or ship passages. So, you think they are coming here, for the housing or healthcare, eh? Sounds iffy, but, if you insist.
YES, they ARE coming here for that. They know that as soon as they drop an anchor baby, they will get subsidized housing and food stamps. And then in leftist places like California, they don’t even need to have a kid in order to get Medicaid-like programs. And of course ALL of them show up at the ER for free treatment.

All paid for by American taxpayers.

Even if democrats were right that illegals are doing the jobs Americans don’t want, it doesn’t change what you just pointed out. Illegals drive many types of inflation.

And you should see what has happened to the middle and elementary schools in that area - they’ve dropped to a 2 in the Great Schools rating (1 - 10).

Before the illegals invaded, that area was a working class area of modest apartments and small ranch houses. Couples sent their kids to the schools, where they got a somewhat decent education. Now the schools are a joke, where most of the kids are ESL, performing well below grade level, and on free lunches.

Yes, there are several parts of California which have really degraded due to a bunch of illegals taking over. And, even in the city where I live. I just drove through my old stomping grounds where I worked over 20 years ago, which wasn't the greatest area even back then but now it's really run down with graffiti everywhere and almost everywhere has Hispanic signs up all over the place. It now looks like a war zone.

Import the third world, become the third world.

You think they can afford it, because they trade with us?:auiqs.jpg::auiqs.jpg::auiqs.jpg::auiqs.jpg::auiqs.jpg::auiqs.jpg::auiqs.jpg:
It sure doesn't hurt. Of the sixteen developed countries that are ahead of us in healthcare all have trade surpluses with us.

In my opinion this is because cities don't want poor people around so while they talk about affordable housing, they find ways to thwart any serious effort at providing such.
If you were to examine the process of building anything in a major city you will find that the process and administrative costs exceed both the supplies and labor to build. It's why a one bedroom condo in Los Angeles sells for a million dollars.

That would be the "Hilton" to most homeless.

When I was in the Army we sometimes went to the field and lived in "tent cities" for days at a time. It wasn't bad, even in the winter. Those large military tents hold heat really well. The small "squad tents" not so much, however.

True. When I got out of college, the best I could afford was some dumpy rental where I was afraid to come home after dark. Most of my friends shared two-bedroom apartments, or rented a room in a group house. None of us complained.

Nowadays, the kids feel they’re suffering if they’re not in a $2500 luxury apartment walking distance to the metro with a 24-hour doorman.
That’s the biggest problem. Their expectations are way higher than their income. They would make fun of our first 800 square foot house that needed and got remodeled, by us, weekends and nights.

Exactly. My first purchase was a 600-square foot apartment, with a tiny bedroom.

The last place I rented before I got married was in a large-estate-turned-rooming -house right on the lake. I rented a small room, no kitchen, common bathroom in the hall. When a larger room came up I moved to it, finally moving to the basement apartment with three others. It was a dump but we loved it. When I got married we moved out of the city to a 20-acre hobby farm. I've lived in so many places and houses I can't even remember them all.
