Why must the political parties be perfectly democratic?

The Republican party and the Democratic party and every other political party is not part of the US Government. They are a private group. They can make any rules they want just so they do not break any federal laws that all organizations must follow.

Nothing says one member, one vote.

If you do not like it, join another party

it's a great question. and a great observation. i liken it to the rock and roll hall of fame which is more like a private club.
the vote belongs to the voter, nobody else. all this talk about stealing votes or buying elections is ridiculous. this cycle has sort of proven that superpacs have worn out their welcome, they have outlived their purpose.

and in 2012 the RRHOF opened voting to worldwide fans.

I found it interesting that no Trump supporters commented.
