That's a very vague definition, since it only covers a portion of what Marx advanced as the final goal and leaves out all the means and reasoning he used to arrive at that conclusion. Honestly, I don't think either one of those gentlemen were Marxists at all, sure they borrowed concepts from Marx but I don't think the evidence suggests that either would have been an ally of Marx if he were still around. I would classify both of them as power hungry, egomaniacs that would borrow concepts from anybody if they thought it would advance their cause.A pure Marxist promotes the government taking over all means of production. Neither Alinsky nor Obama ever went that far. Even Lenin, when he tried it causing a massive collapse of the Russian economy, relented and allowed more privatization.
I consider myself a fairly devoted Misesian, however having studied Das Kapital I cannot reject all of Marx's conclusions nor all of his criticisms, even though I find the bulk of the work to be rubbish, would that make me an "impure Marxist"?
