This video is why we need the second amendment. Had that been me with my son, every one of those bikers would have been laying on the street, either dead or bleeding out. New York lefties like it when law abiding citizens cannot protect themselves. These were not some poor downtrodden oppressed people, they were dressed well and could afford 5 dollar gasoline for their dirt bikes. Then the bystanders just stand there for a moment and walk away. Had a cop been present and tried to arrest these violent thugs, the bystanders would still be filming the "brutal" police treatment of the "nice little kids who just needed milk money for school".

In 2022, if you don;t own at least one firearm with plenty of ammunition, and have practiced with it, you are stupid. Why has violent crime exploded, because the left has tied the hands of our police, defunded many of the departments and have turned the media against law and order and in full support of the total collapse of our society.

Fund the police, reopen the prisons and jails that have been closed, and this November remove these stupid socialists and anarchists' from the halls of our Congress. And if you don't own a firearm, you better remove your head from your backside and go learn how to use one and then buy one, with ammunition.

These days, depending on which state you call home and even in so-called conservative states, one must sacrifice himself almost in order to use a gun in self-defense. Killing or wounding a bad guy will likely end whatever criminal threat to one's family or innocent bystanders but will also very likely end, for the armed citizen, in years of imprisonment or tens of thousands in legal bills and court costs. Nevertheless, as the old saying goes (slightly modified), "It is better to be judged by twelve than to have a loved one carried by six."

In the case you mention above had the father opened fire on their assailants he would likely have been arrested and charged with dozens of crimes. State and federal governments alike truly do not like the taste of armed citizens protecting themselves at the expense of criminals. Government wants citizens to live in fear and see the State as their only savior in times of crisis.

In my state, Pennsylvania, defending oneself or any occupant in the car from the crime as described in the OP, would be covered under PA's castle doctrine law.

Deadly force is authorized if the offender is in the process of unlawfully or forcefully entering or has unlawfully and forcefully entered and is present within a dwelling, residence, or occupied vehicle; or the person whom the force is used is or attempting to forcefully and unlawfully remove another against the others will from the dwelling, residence, or occupied vehicle.

To use a firearm in that defensive situation (which would require one to possess a loaded firearm in a vehicle) one must have a valid PA License to Carry Firearms (LTCF}.
