By now it must be common news that taking a speed boat off the tip of South America is a deadly mission. Yet they continue to try. What could drive people to that point where they're going out on an adventure that has a better than even chance of ending up in death?

I think I saw somewhere somewhere it said that they offer these boat people millions of dollars to try. But only if they make it. So it is life or limb to these people, all or nothing.

Next in declining likelihood after that I'd guess that democrats keep sending the boats hoping for Trump to bomb them for yet another evening news story on how terribly our president is treating and violating the rights of criminals attacking and slaying millions of Americans with their deadly narcotics.

As was pointed out above we have no idea what percent are being blown up.

It is pretty clear now that this was never about drugs, so there is no reason to think the US government is even trying to get most of them. They blow up a boat every now and then to keep the party members happy.

Not big enough for any type of serious fishing.
Even a small commercial fishing boat is five times the size of that speed boat. I'm certainly not an expert on what volumes of drugs are worth monetarily. Seems to me you would need much less volume of narcotics to transport an amount that would make the journey worth the effort.

Why would a reduction upset me? That makes no sense at all.
