I think that often it comes down to self-interest, like pretty much every other demographic group out there. Married women tend to vote to support the GOP that supports the concept of family values and keeping more of what you have earned. Unmarried women however, don't have the benefit of a man's paycheck coming in so they support the democrats that promise them greater assistance than what the GOP offers.

Women are more collectivist than men are. Married women have that covered by their home/church. Single women don't have that local community and government substitutes for a husband/family/community. Of course that's a generalization

I have thought for some time now that whether you are left or right depends on whether you identify with the poor or the rich. It doesn't actually matter whether you ARE poor or rich, just what you feel is your identity group. If you identify with the poor, you vote Left. If you identify with the rich, you vote Right.

I like the comments that married women have more security (and feel richer) and so identify with Republicans. Whereas single mothers and such naturally identify with the poor.

Don't forget some of this is about abortion rights, too. If men are going to get women pregnant and then abandon them to have to raise the kid alone as a kind of trap, don't expect women to identify with Mr. Big and Daddy Warbucks.

well, the first thing that comes to my mind is that women tend to... I know it's a stereotype but they seem to tend to be more emotional and more "caring" so they gravitate toward the party thatseem to be more caring... which of course, it is total propaganda that that iss the dim party... total propaganda.

It is NOT compasssionate, for example, to make people dependent on govt... That iss probably the LEAST compassionate thing I can think going on vis a vis politics and govt policy..

not to mention it is not compasssionate for the taxpayers... although caring for everyday people "with problems" is a FAR better use of taxpayer money than... choke... paying Congress persons to do virtually nothing... and when they are not doingg nothing... OMG... we wish they were!
