The basic value of conservatism is free movement of labor and capital.
No it isn't. Three reasons:
1) Free movement in the context of immigration assumes that everyone coming here is
coming here legally, and that as a result we should welcome them with open arms. That runs contrary to the existing conservative values. An open border policy is a direct contradiction to one of the core pillars conservative values. Deny it all you like... but that is the message the title of your OP is implying, furthermore;
2) Free movement of capital assumes that we are supposed to accept trade deals freely and without question. That can't happen. You should make deals that protect and ensure the free movement of capital and protects the existing labor force without making sacrifices or compromises along the way, your support for no trade restrictions only ensures that bad deals will be made and accepted, and;
3) Free movement of labor assumes the same thing as the first example, and assumes these "legal" immigrants aren't sucking jobs away from other Americans. This runs contrary to the free movement of capital by giving preference to foreign labor over American labor.
"Free movement" is such a blanket term, it is also a very dangerous term to flout about as far as conservative values go. It doesn't always mean what you think it means.
People are free to offer their labor to employers, employers are free to hire whom they want
People, in this instance, should feel free to naturalize themselves before they start offering labor to any employer, to wit, employers should not be allowed to hire every Julio, Jose, and Juanita that comes through his door, simply because Julio, Jose, and Juanita might be illegal immigrants. There should be punishments for illegal immigration, and it should start at the employment application process---oh wait, I thought that was what E-Verify was for.
This leads me to ask:
Who are you and what have you done with the real Rabbi? This doesn't sound like you at all.
