Why aren’t the politicians talking about one of the greatest issues facing America. The Obesity rate and our unhealthy population

All Republicans made it a point to slam Michelle Obama's idea to give our children healthier food.

They called it Marxist after they called is Socialist.

Indeed. They were beside themselves when she dared have a vegetable garden at the WH.

Take a look at this wonderful, delicious and healthy spread I got at a restaurant in Cambodia. Quail eggs in the second picture a very strong source of protein and other health benefits.

But go to the USA in every major city especially the inner cities… you got a Kentucky fried chicken and McDonald’s on every street corner

According to data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, more than 2 in 5 adults are obese, and nearly 1 in 5 children are obese. Furthermore, 19 states in America have obesity rates over 35 percent, increased from 16 states just last year. A decade ago, no states had obesity rates above 35 percent! Obesity is linked to a number of health ailments, including diabetes, heart disease, stroke, and a number of cancers such as breast and colorectal. If that wasn’t enough, the annual medical cost of obesity was nearly 173 billion dollars in 2019 alone.

Unfortunately American restaurants seem to give huge portions and load on the calories on everything.

I am on a diet lost 30 lbs so far. Previously I have lost 85lbs, 75 lbs, 60lbs before on diets. One thing I learned is to not eat out a lot if your on a diet, you will kill your diet even if you try to eat healthy food at a restaurant. Even things that are considered healthy foods like salads restaurants will still load the calories on with unhealthy ingredients. Even the bread they serve is loaded with a lot of extra calories you don't need.

Here's the problem with that. I teach in a junior high school, chair a department, and I monitor the cafeteria because I work with behavior kids. What I see is this:

Our cafeteria serves the "healthy" food that was mandated under the Obamas. There are strict rules requiring students to take an entree, a vegetable, a fruit, and a milk (whole or lowfat chocolate), and forbidding sharing food, to make sure each child eats his or her mandated portion.

They don't.

They get plenty of tasty food at home, especially if their parents are "poor" and the food is free to them with no requirement to buy health food with the EBT cards. They use the money they save to eat at McDonald's and buy beer.

The mandated "healthy" school food is not even that healthy, just tasteless. Whole grain chocolate donuts, with just as much sugar, but the texture of cardboard is one of the few items that at least gets half eaten. Very little seasoning or spices. No salt or pepper available. The kids, being mainly Hispanic, used to bring Tajin to add some flavor, but it was banned.

So most of it goes into the trash. Probably could save the Arabs in Gaza from starvation with just what my district puts in the trash. Except for our high school.

At our high school, the made the decision to forego federal funds and they hired a professional restaurant manager to run it. It serves delicious flavorful food at a slighly higher cost than the pre-discarded garbage that is served in the lower grades. Free lunchers are taken care of also. It's a separate line, but the food is still better than in my Junior High thanks to the money that paying students provide.

Obesity is a serious problem, alright. But it will only be made worse if government tries to fix it.
Saw the same crap happen at schools here. Michelle ruined school lunches and massive amounts of that mandated crap were just thrown immediately out. That is a typical lib policy - make what you are ostensibly trying to improve much worse and create massive waste while doing it. These programs always provide opportunities for shady companies to make money off them. The wonders of government control.

Fat, the government has always adressed, fat. We dont need more governmentvdriving up the cost of food, further.

Besides, here in good ole america, the population got old. Old people are fatter than the young. Add the fat illegal aliens into the mix, then the usa has no fat problem.

It is static reasoning, which went like this: 'Our cafeteria food has fat, sugar and spices. The kids eat it up. We'll take out the fat, sugar, and spices, and when the kids eat it up, it will be more healthy for them.'

They never once asked themselves whether the kids would still eat the food. Never had the lab cook up samples of the proposed menu for them to taste. They are much too important to eat the food of peasants. Meanwhile, you think Mickey D's would make the slightest change to their fries without the executives tasking the new version first?

I don't see many fat old people at all. They generally don't make it to old age.

You forgot palm oil. High in saturated fat which contributes to the #1 illness in the US... heart disease.
not true, palm oil metabolizes similar to mono-saturated fat, is not associated with higher cardiovascular risk according to more recent studies.

Consumption of highly processed foods, sugar and carbohydrates is where most of the obesity problems are.

So don't be lazy. Cook for yourself and eat at home.

Mrs Natural and I usually split a dinner when we go out to eat.

That way we save both money and calories.

The problem at my school is that a number of my students have almost NO food at home. What they can get at school is it for the day. It's why more often than not I end up giving my own lunch away (discreetly).
If you are young, the question is why since the Great Society was supposed to tend any of that if it existed before it. I remember eating lettuce sandwiches. It is a crime that kids go to sleep hungry with all of the money spent. No one asks any questions. We do not see any emaciated children yet.
