I honestly feel as though republicans/Rightwingers are the ones who make the biggest issue out of guns. It's amazing they can be so dramatic about the 2nd amendment. It's purely emotional really. It makes them see threats that really aren't there. Even now 7 years into Obama's presidency some of them still believe he is coming for their guns despite the fact that he has NEVER advocated for gun grabbing of any kind. All he talks about is better regulation and exploring resolving issues associated with violent mentally ill people to prevent gun violence. It concerns him and other liberals that 11,000 people die of gun violence per year. Isn't that reasonable? Shouldn't SOMETHING be done about that? Wouldn't gun nuts prefer laws that prevent terrorists from obtaining weapons? No one is talking about abolishing the 2nd amendment. I mean my god talk about absolutely impossible. I'm for re-prioritizing our budget. No new taxes, just cut entitlements to pay for prisons. Pretty simple. I would wager, most Americans would vote for increased taxes to pay for more prisons to keep them locked up longer

What's emotional are all the anti second amendment people out there who think the actions of an extreme minority are justification to make if difficult or impossible for a law abiding citizen to exercise his legal right

The 1st amendment already has restrictions. Defamation and child pornography are very much illegal.

To own a handgun in NYC I have to wait 6 months and pay $1000 just to be able to purchase one, that isn't to carry it outside, its to have it in my home. That is an actual law, and what your side wants everyone to have to deal with.

I have no criminal record, and no history of mental adjudication. Why should I have to wait that long and pay that much just to own a revolver?

For 171 years following the 2nd Amendment, US History shows no random shootings of schoolhouses or innocents from a disgruntled person. In the last 50 years starting with The University of Texas shooting, we've seen countless campus and workplace shootings from mentally disturbed individuals.

If I buy a gun, I have to have a background check, take classes and get a permit to own a gun and register the gun. That seems to be a compromise already. You got two of the three things you are asking for. We compromised.
