There is an easy fix to Medicare, just rein in the Medicare Advantage plans. A start to that has been proposed by Democrats, it is called the Save Medicare Act and it is simple. It just changes the name of Medicare Advantage Plans to Alternative Private Health Plan. Time for private insurers to stop profiting off the Medicare name.

Those plans are replete with fraud, four of the top five providers have all paid multi-million dollar fines to the government. If you are a beneficiary of such a plan you might be surprised to know you probably have two or three chronic diseases that you didn't know you had, because you don't, but the plans claim you do and get extra payment from the government.

You don't need prior authorization with Medicare, while Medicare Advantage plans utilize antiquated authorization processes in a shallow attempt to delay, or deny care, and all for profit. Medicare Advantage plans have convoluted networks, your hospital might be in the network, your surgeon may not, and then you are stuck with his bill. Again, it is all profit.

The whole scam was sold to us by Republicans. Oh, letting private companies take over the care of Medicare beneficiaries will provide cost savings. LOL, it didn't work. All we got was rampant fraud and increased costs. Not like you couldn't see that one coming. Make them change the name and refuse to pay them more per member than the average cost of a person on Medicare, minus 20%.
