Sorry for using the broad brush again, Jarhead. While I agree it is a VERY expensive approach. How expensive is continued 8/9/10% unemployment?
Not saying that isnt expensive as well.
But lets be real here.....how many "college grad" jobs are there? And who will do the blue collar work when the jobs become available again?
As a recruiter I hear "I have a degree. No way Im going to be someones receptionist" all the time.
I know that here in New York, those on unemployment can enroll in medical coding courses at the expense of the tax payer. Problem they have been having is getting people to do it...no joke. Classes get booked up....but no show rate for classes is absurdly high. Not becuase people are lazy or uininterested....but there is a very strange phenonmenon going on here in NY...
Many on unemployment are getting off the books jobs...day care for employed friends....light construction like taping and painting.....
It is great for them....400 a week unemployment plus anouther 400 a week off the books....I dont blame them for doing it.
But we are also seeing day care centers going under as a result....you know....friend does it for 10 an hour while the day care center charges 20 an hour.
