Either they looked away for a moment. Or they hesitated for some reason. Or the job of monitoring buildings outside the rally perimeter was foolishly delegated to local law enforcement.

Lots of potential mistakes and bad decisions.

I wouldn't know. I was Republican from 1980 to 2008, and more or less a Democrat since then, but I've still crossed party lines to vote against nominees I didn't like. For instance, in 2016 I took a GOP Ballot to vote for Kasich. In 1992, I took a Democratic ballot to vote against Bill Clinton for Paul Tsongas, who I had to Wiki to remember his name. Tsongas would have died before completing his first term.

That said, the fact he was also wearing a Demolitia Ranch T-shirt would indicate to me that he's probably on the far right side of the spectrum.

The rooftops were the first place I would be looking at.

If I had seen a long-haired hippy sniper low-crawling on an adjacent roof with a gun, and I had a high powered scope trained on him like these guys were, the assassin never would have gotten off a shot.
