Yes - its a fact that Israel aka the IDF - specifically the Israeli air-force, attacked first.
However according to International law - the imminent situation in 1967 permitted Israel the right to defend itself - aka a PREEMPTIVE strike is valid under such circumstances by International law.

As history has proven - the Zionist radicals wanted ALL of former British Palestine incl. the Golan-Heights for themselves, and control over the Suez-Canal. They had already unsuccessfully tried to snatch it in 1954.
The Arab-League incl. Egypt being fully aware about radical Zionist intentions since the 1920'ies, wanted to eradicate the State of Israel and prepared their respective armies - to do just that in 1967.
Israel therefore took it's chance to attack first (claiming the International right of a "preemptive strike") mauled the Arabs badly and took the West-bank, Golan-height and "shared-control" of the Suez-canal. Fulfilling the radical Zionist dream.
The 1973 Yom-Kippur war had clearly demonstrated to the Israelis - that the Arabs/Egypt would not let them exist in peace and had the potential to destroy their State. The Egyptians had gone bankrupt and were eying for US $ - as such they swapped the USSR with the USA and got Sinai back in return.
Egypt's military power position was taken over by Iraq - who the US needed to confine Iran. After the USA took out Iraq - Israel became "almost unbeatable" however Palestinian terrorism - foremost escalating due to Israels settlement policy and Israels attack onto Lebanon made a moderate Israeli government under Rabin look for a path of reconciliation with the Arabs and especially the Palestinians. Therefore Rabin was assassinated by a radical Zionist. Iraq's power vacuum had been taken over by Iran and Syria.
Syria dropped out due to the Arab spring - and has since then been subjugated towards an endless civil-war. Foremost due to the actions of the USA, Turkey and some other NATO serfs. With Israel taking it's weekly chances to hit Syria with illegal airstrikes. This left only Iran - and as such the radical Zionist reembarked onto their settlement policy and ethnic cleansing efforts and couldn't give a shit about Jordan's renunciation of the West-Bank. The PLO had given in via accepting a State of Israel - thus enabling the Hamas faction - sponsored also by Israel - since they would be a guarantee for Israel to sooner or later strike at and reoccupy Gaza.
Israels intentions were solely directed towards the West-Bank, since they had already successfully and illegally annexed the Golan-Heights - recognized only by the USA (Trump) and succeeded in illegally proclaiming Jerusalem to be Israels capital (recognized immediately by Trump).
The PLO/Fatah has no military power nor political power anymore - since the Palestinians in majority started to support Hamas. Hamas is presently on the way to seize political power in the West-Bank. Thus effectively making Hamas (independent of Hezbollah and Iran) the only remaining threat to Israel's settlement and ethnic cleansing campaign.
That Israel's intelligence services have successfully infiltrated Hamas since latest 2005 incl. it's leadership organs is indisputable. (they were aware about everything in regards to Hamas). The only question that remains is - who ordered "incited" the Hamas attack on October 7th.
One thing is for sure - the attack by Hamas only benefits ISRAEL. Both Hamas and Hezbollah were/are fully aware that they can't win nor survive a full-scale attack via the IDF. In order to "justify" the indiscriminate bombing of Gaza and it's occupation - counting onto the world staying "neutral" or "pro-Israel" - Israel aka Netanyahu and his gang - invented and keep propagating "atrocities" committed by Hamas.
However the world isn't as dumb as Israel believed it to be, - the USA (afraid of loosing it's UN and international status and influence) is now forced to drop it's "unconditional" support for Israel. The majority of Israelis does not support Netanyahu and his gang - his only support derives from the IDF (that in majority comprises of Netanyahu sympathizers) however it does Not include Israels reservist force - the far larger part.
Netanyahu's survival therefore lies entirely in the hands of the IDF - in order to keep that war necessarily as short as possible - the IDF employs every means it possesses to utterly destroy and occupy Gaza, thus not simply eradicating the armed wing of Hamas (the least concern for the IDF) but to destroy the "Hamas Spirit of Resistance" amongst the Gaza Palestinians - eventually subjugating them being harmless sheep, as they have already done successfully with the Palestinians in the West-Bank.
If one favors "peace" and control over Palestine solely by Israel - then that is the way to ensure it - until some "resistance group" gets it's hands onto some dirty bombs - and blows up the whole place to smithereens.
