Who pays tariffs?

And walk us through the next link in the chain.

You and your foreign nation competitor make a widget.

You sell yours for a $1.00. They sell theirs for $0.75. You’re getting your ass kicked.

Boom a tariff is applied. The price of your product should stay $1.00. The foreign nation competitors product goes up to $1.25. Do you keep selling yours for $1.00? Or do you take advantage and raise your price to take advantage?
If you have a brain in your head--the question is still out regarding you--you raise your price.

Yeah dumbfuck...importers pass the higher costs onto their customers on things they import and they import less. That is why we were standing in line for everything from soup to nuts during covid...importers imported less.
And all that assumes we have the manufacturing ability to MAKE those products at scale

We don’t

Yes, it is consumers who end up paying the tariffs! Does anyone disagree?

Tariffs up's the cost of the China junk to the cost of Made in USA product. So it allows you to maintain the better standard of living you enjoy over the Chinese. Now you can choose between a $10 junk Chinese item or a much much better USA $10 version.

Someone who's proud of their country would welcome a supportive president of their manufacturing base.

The idea of imposing a tariff to raise the cost of foreign goods to match the cost of the same goods manufactured in your country is as old as commerce itself. But imposing a tariff on all goods only raises prices. If there is no equivalent domestic goods, what is the point of tariffs? It takes decades to maybe build the infrastructure.

The pros and cons of tariffs. For the USA, the pros outweigh the cons. So with no tariffs, America would be in a worse position -
