We have two cats in our household and no dogs or other pets.

I had dogs they died about 10 years ago of old age never got anymore cant take care of them I am bed bound

Cats have a staff.

Cats are just generally a little smarter:

• While the cat realizes that he is there because you must WANT him there, giving him some leverage (I had one cat threaten to run away for leaving him with an aunt for a week), and they will explore that leverage, understanding that if they have to, there is plenty of food and other homes outside,
• Dogs realize they are lost without a home and that you could kick them out at any minute for taking up so much room, and being such a pest and mess that they are forever throwing themselves at your feet of mercy to please, please do not get rid of them! I mean, people have beds and stuff.
