And we would need about 127 of those (at $13 billion each) to equal what we spent on Social Security/Medicaid/Medicare last year. We spent $1.65 trillion on those programs alone. Defense spending on the other hand was $596 billion. So, what was that about a military-industrial complex?

In case you didn't notice Dwight Eisenhower warned us about the military/industrial complex in 1960. That's when we had a chance to cut off all that extra military spending. Did you read the story about a tank factory in Ohio building 3000 state-of-the-art tanks that the military didn't need and wouldn't accept?

The United States claims aircraft carriers are flexing muscles, and a threat to world stability, but only if they're Chinese ones.
American ones are exempt from this, but they didn't explain why.

It seems a Chinese ship in the South China sea is a problem, but a load of US warships in the same area is fine.
The South China sea, for those with no grasp of geography, is no where near California.

Given the US ships have to go half way around the world, one wonders who is right in this dispute, and why a peace loving country (That's started more wars than any other nation since WWII) needs so many aircraft carriers.
