There’s audacity, and then there’s whatever Christian nationalist Joel Webbon was preaching last week. The White Texas-based pastor took to his “Right Response Ministries” podcast to deliver a jaw-dropping rant that sounded more like racist White supremacist propaganda than a productive discussion.

He is telling Black folks to “stop whining and crying” about slavery when being in bondage was our fault was just the tip of the iceberg.

Webbon started off his YouTube video paying tribute to the late pastor, Voddie Baucham Jr. of Zambia, but it didn’t take long for things to go left. He went on a full-blown rant, claiming Black folks should see slavery “as a blessing,” adding that without it, we’d “live in a grass hut.”

He didn’t stop there, saying our reparations are simply “getting to live in America” — the very country built on our ancestors’ stolen labor, per Albert African American Studies. And just when you thought he’d said enough, Webbon doubled down, explaining why he believes we should be thankful for slave masters.

“The greatest moment in history for any brown or Black country is the moment that the White man’s ships arrive on your shore,” Webbon boldly declared. “He brings the gospel of Jesus Christ, he catechizes you and your children, he brings exports, he brings hospitals, medicine, life expansion increases, GDP and resources increase, medicine increases, and most importantly, you get taught the gospel of Jesus Christ so that you can live longer on Earth and then go to Heaven instead of Hell.”

If Blacks didn’t sell Blacks into slavery there would never have been a problem in the first place. Up to 200 years ago white and ethnic slavery was as common as the sun rising and setting each day. Simply a major part of human nature, conquer, rape, pillage, then subjugate the vanquished into slavery. Every empire and kingdom depended upon slavery to exist. How the hell was slavery the black slaves fault??? More powerful black African tribes raided their regions, dragged them out against their will and bartered/sold them off to mostly Arab slavers and over time, European and American (North American and South American slavers). The initial blame falls squarely on the larger more powerful tribes of Africa.
However, we can't logically use "presentism" (the practice of claiming that people in history should have known better because of what we know now). The Chinese had slaves, the Japanese had slaves, India had slavery, the Egyptians had slavery and of course, European regions had slavery. There were even white slaves. That's where we get the word slavery from. The white Slavs of central and Eastern European continent were enslaved by Arabs. It was a world phenomenon.
As to what the descendants of slaves would be living like now, in the 21st century, well, I suggest taking a DNA test and find out what region your ancestors resided in, in Africa and go there to see how they live now. What they live like now really doesn't matter, only that you will have connected with the people from your ancestor's past. As to whether you are better off isn't the point, only that your ancestors endured a difficult, demanding, demoralizing and painful life, however, so too did lots of people who lived in squalor. Being dragged away from family members to become slaves, was one more humiliation. Life in ancient times for everybody but the well-off, largely sucked.

Many people weren’t given equality in the past, not just black people. That can’t be rectified. I have never thought slavery was a good thing. I want everyone treated equally. I have zero control over how people treat each other, only how I treat others, which is certainly not hateful or racist.

Lynching is not the only injustice, that black folks have suffered after the injustice of slavery and many of those black folks ARE still LIVING today.

Japanese Americans were given reparations for being put in internment camps during WWII, we didn't hear none of the racist complaining, why is that? For some reason though when it comes to black folks, the hatred runs so deep we just can't come to grips with the injustices that were done and are still being done.

So, it can't be both ways, we are getting preferential treatment on admissions to college and prison. So, if 84% of black students can't read, then how are we stopping all of the smart white kids from getting into college? We make up about 4-8% of the student body and the majority of those students are athletes, you love it that the football team and basketball team are 85%, but you hate just for the average black student to be there.
