Christ that's hard Toob, so many were just admirably adept , yet so unsung and underrated.

as to the list Paul McCartney was simply ahead of his time

John Paul Jones broke all the rules....

Billy Wyman was a perfect fit For Charlie Watts

Rodger waters was a great fit for the genre , as well as the great timing for it

And AC/DC had more bassists than i can remember

To those I might add:
  • Stanley Clarke
  • Rick Laird
  • Aaron "P-Nut" Wills
  • Lee Dorman
  • Ralphe Armstrong
  • Geddy Lee
  • Chris Squire
  • Jaco Pastorius

It's like asking to choose betwixt lobster bisque and caviar .....S~

classic rock was the 70's....i dont think the beatles fit in....

Classic rock isn't limited to just the 70's, although you might could say most classic rock came during that time. But not all.

And yes, the Beatles are part of the classic rock era, probably the beginning. They are one of the most influential bands of all time.

Entwhistle ranks way up there too. And while I don't like much of their music Les Claypool is amazingly good.
