J Jamerson for his modal ability, Larry Graham's and Flea's slap, Jaco's fusion, Jack Bruce & Entwhistles sick attacks...I thought Cliff Burton was the greatest metal bassist until Trujillio came along ......in my view it's all about what they did that was unique and different....~S~

Looks like a duel between LED Z and BEATLES

It always is. For a reason. And IMO - that isn't really a contest.
Beatles win by the numbers.... Led Zep wins by who has the most talent and better music.
I think it is more about how good the music is, than who sold the most records. It has been proven over and over and over what the public goes for the most is absolutely not who is the best.

I watch the Davie 504 and Charles Berthoud bass videos and while they're impressive (Charles played "Eruption" on the bass) I relatively recently came to appreciate Zappa's bass players for their ability to craft, in real time, a supporting melody on bass. You can't practice what you're going to play - you just have to play it right there and then

Hard to say because they are all amazing bands in their own way. Each one vastly different than the others. Each one had a big impact on music. Each one is enjoyed by people from allover the world, even by people who generally don't like rock.

Guess I'd have to say the Beatles because they probably did the most for music and really opened the door. The other bands might not be around without them. No telling what music would be like without them.
