You mean Canaan? Long before it was Canaan it was the Kingdom of Judea, and King Solomons son divided the land into two parts, one being Israel. So it was Israel FIRST. Jews have lived on that land for 4000 years.
Don't worry about the book of Joshua. Worry about 1947.

Jews have lived continuously on the land that is now Israel for over 4000 years. It is not accurate to say that Israel stole land from Palestinians.
Originally Israel was MUCH larger than it is now. The brits got it during WW1 and then in 1947 signed it over to what is now Israel. They never said ANYTHING about Palestine. Even the flag of "Palestine" had a star of David on it under the mandate.

The land that is now Israel was originally called the Kingdom of Judea, hence why Jews are called what we are. It was led by King Saul, then King David, and then King Solomon.
During the reign of King Solomon's son, the kingdom of Judea split into two kingdoms, one was named Israel.
Eventually, the Roman Empire conquered the Jewish State and after some major revolts against the empire by the Jews. The second revolt occurred in 135 AD. In retaliation for the revolt, they exiled yet more Jews, took many more to Rome as slaves, outright banned them from Jerusalem.
So originally it WAS Jewish land. Palestine didn't come along for centuries.
