What's wrong with our economy?

]Democrats at best are centralist.

more proof that liberalism is based in pure ignorance. Obama supports single payer and just introduced Obamacare which is not centrist but obviously socialist.

Do you understand now?
Nah, Obama claimed he supported single payer for votes, at some point he claimed he would recognize the Armenian Genocide for votes too. Obama isn't a 'socialist', more like a sellout who backs down after elected, as he knew he could not possibly have the power to get most of the policies he promised implemented - but it appealed to his core base. He also made token gestures to the Occupy Protests, even though he took no real steps to stop police brutality across the country when the occupy protests were on.

People are gullible when it comes to politicians, which is why if I could have voted at the time I wouldn't have voted for either mainstream candidate on offer.

The politicians aren't trying to create anything. To the extent they make economic policy, it's directed at specific issues and has specific goals. If they actually tried to create a broad, coherent policy, we'd all be better-off.

Actually politicians (as you haven't noticed) have ideologically driven economic goals, whether it is George W. Bush or Barrack Obama. As such they do create policy according to those beliefs, just like under Reagan and Clinton, the White House, the Senate, and Congress try to pass ideologically motivated legislation to organize the economy and CREATE their vision, whatever that might be.

Sure but their vision is directed narrowly toward the problem at hand. They never expend the effort to think about the consequences of their actions beyond achieving the immediate goal.

Stuff is complicated. That's just the way the world is.[...]
Apathy is not how you fix the IRS, or the tax system. Thanks for making no sense.

The IRS doesn't need "fixing." Those who want it fixed don't have a good understanding of what it has to do.

The politicians aren't trying to create anything.

of course they are. Democrats are trying to create socialism. Ever heard of Obamacare? Republicans are trying to create capitalism. ONce you understand that you can move forward.

PPACA isn't even close to socialism. Except for the Medicaid portion, It relies on private health insurance companies and private health care providers.

dear, they are not really private when they are totally controlled by the liberal govt. For starters, the liberal govt has made it illegal for them to compete across state lines. Do you understand, liberal?

If the government allows you to buy a car but completely controls when you are allowed to drive it and where you may go, how damn important is it that you own the car when its the government who controls the car?

... 4) The jobs being created are low-income jobs that are prone to being eliminated by mechanization and technological advancement. ...

The good jobs have been exported. Capitalists think they can manufacture overseas and sell in the US. We can't let that happen. It leaves only the bad jobs. Instead, we should close the borders. Americans should make the things Americans use.

Americans should make the things Americans use.

perfect proof that liberalism is based in pure ignorance. Econ 101 dear: if you build a trade barrier around yourself, or your state, or your country you get poorer not richer. Do you want to grow your own bananas in a green house at $10/pound or buy then for 10 cents a pound on the free market?

Isn't thinking fun, liberal?

The good jobs have been exported.

no dear the good jobs have stayed: management, creative, engineering, etc. The low and middle class jobs have been exported by liberal unions to places like China where the unskilled work can be done well and cheaply. Then the liberals invited in 20 million illegals to take what jobs remaining at lower and lower wages. You could create a huge boom tomorrow by making libeal policies illegal for their huge stupidity.

Do you understand?

It makes a difference if the definition of socialized transportation is publicly-owned buses and subways.

Your personal car. You buy it, you own it, you maintain it. The government though tells you when you are allowed to drive and where you are permitted to go. You own it, they control it.

this is how the Great Depression started!!

1) Has Joe heard of the Great Depression

2) Has Joe heard of Hawley Smoot

3) Has Joe considered how poor we'd all be if every individual, country, or State had to make everything it consumed?

PPACA only affects those who wouldn't or couldn't buy their own health insurance but who still would receive at least some health care services. In your analogy it would be like someone being entitled to transportation but refusing to buy a car. The government would have a right to control the car because they're responsible for ensuring transportation is provided.

ACA is socialistic in that it puts government in control rather than the producers and consumers.

Although it grieves me mightily to say so, Ed actually has the economic history here basically right. The 1929 collapse of the stock market did not immediately trigger an economic collapse. It took more than a year for the economy to sink into the Depression. What accelerated it was the Smoot-Hawley Tariff which with its counterparts in other countries decimated international trade.

but to most liberals international trade is bad. They want to close our borders and put the poor folks in Detroit back to work making cars. Can you explain why that's a good or bad idea very very very briefly?
