What would have happened if the Union allowed the confederacy to secede in 1860?
150 years later, the old confederate states are dominated by racism and are not in sync with the majority of the Union.
In 1860 they were Democrats, in 2022 they are Republicans but the morals and government desires of the South have not changed.
Should we jettison the old confederacy, plus a few other states, from the Union in 2024?

What would have happened? You'd still be picking cotton.

The Confederacy would have invaded and absorbed Mexico and Central America and possibly the various Caribbean Islands belonging to France and the Netherlands spreading slavery south past Panama. It would have allied with Brazil, the last slave owning nation in South America and between the two would probably dominate South American politics. Come WWI, the Union would probably ally with Germany since there were very many German immigrants in the Union states, while the Confederacy would probably remain neutral rather than starting a war with the Union which would still be an industrial giant since the industrial states were all in the Union. Who knows what would happen in 1939.

More than likely slavery would have ended in the confederate states within a decade or two. But that is just speculation which cannot be proven one way or another. I wonder how WWI and perhaps WWII would have played out without a unified USA, assuming that those wars occur at all. Change one thing in history, then every event following is subject to change.....butterfly effect.

Feel free to expel. We have most of your good military bases anyway.

In the real world, you wouldn't just be jettisoning the old Confederacy, but most of the fly over states, most of the west coast states except for the liberal strip along the ocean where all the liberals live as well. All the northern border states with the exception of the few liberal cities. Your liberal America would consist of New England and the counties containing liberal cities as bastions surrounded by conservative hinterlands. Liberals are concentrated in the big cities the rest of the country is solidly conservative. At best it would be a cut-rate version of PanEm from the Hunger Games movies, a few cities surrounded by productive areas that the cities would depend on for everything they needed. The liberal counties would lack water, power, food and most other raw resources.

An independent Confederacy could conquer new land that would be profitably farmed with slaves, so the end of slavery would probably be put off for decades and when it finally died, ex-slaves would be very much third-class residents of their states.

We'd be speaking various dialects of Russian and German.

There would be no United States of America. We would never have achieved superpower status and the strongest countries would have taken this country and plundered its resources for themselves.

Sure, and when you jettison Texas that has a high Hispanic Population and supplies a lot of resources to other States just remember you wanted this…

Idiot, they DID secede. The Civil War was over fighting the Confederacy to defeat and force them back in with the United States.
You dumbasses, the confederacy tried to secede but the north beat your sorry asses and wouldn't let you.
The definition of a loser; they lose but they did not know they lost

Of course you will because you will be paying through the damn nose for food you simple minded moron!

Also you need to look at the States you are calling racist and ask yourself why the North has it share of racists and know I lived outside Chicago in Joliet and I can tell you Texas is nowhere near as racist as Illinois can be!

By now, every one of those Southern states would be an oasis of freedom and prosperity.

And every one of those Northern states would resemble Somalia.

Chances are, for WWII, the south would have backed Hitler and the North would have backed Britain. And we would have had a war in North America North against the South anyway. Maybe it's good that it was gotten out of the way in the 1860s. There would be Dems and Reps in the North but the South would have it's own brand.

Slavery would have become obsolete within a decade or two as it would be cost-prohibitive vs industrial automation. The Confederacy, had it secured independence, likely would have been reabsorbed into the US as both nations would benefit exponentially from the merger. The fed would likely have not grown as much and as fast as a condition of merger.

Democrats were dominated by racism during the 19th century and well into the 20th century and left wing morons blame it on the confederacy.. During the Draft Riots of 1862 in New York City the white mobs lynched every black face they could find. The light poles were adorned with black corpses. The KKK was the muscle of the democrat party and FDR appointed a KKK member to the Supreme Court. If the Confederacy was allowed to secede without the hostilities the South would have been like Canada, a friendly neighboring country and the states would have been as powerful as the federal government today.

Since you will have absolutely zero power in 2024...how are you planning on accomplishing this feat?

Are YOU going to take up arms against US!

Now that's funny. History will call it the 15 minute war.

Evil whitey would have used negroes for all they’re worth…then sent them ALL back to Africa when Mexicans invaded…proved to be harder workers with a quieter mouth and replaced them…..One day you’ll be pissed that you replaced blacks with beaners but didn’t send blacks home to Africa….BANK ON IT!
