Perhaps it's because it doesn't fit into a musical jingle as good as "special sauce"?

Wanna taste some "special" sauce, baby?

What you should eat less of: Food.

The most successful diet I have tried is one that is proposed by Dr. Ellington Darden (not an MD).

Basically, eat three 300-calorie meals a day, supplemented by three snacks of max 100 calories.

Visually, a 300-calorie meal is very unsatisfying, however, you find quickly that it is more than enough to put off any hunger for a couple of hours. At 1200 calories per day, with a little increase in activity, most people can lose a couple pounds a week, at least.

About salt, the ONLY people who have to concern themselves with salt intake are people who HAVE high blood pressure. For most people, avoiding salt is simply stupid. It has no health benefit whatsoever, and could even be harmful, taken to extremes.
