I've seen them all here in the US but I don't think of them as Islamic since, as I understand it, there are no clothing standards for men or women in the Quran. Many cultures dress very conservatively, especially their women. Orthodox/Hasidic Jews and the Amish come to mind.
But not burkas, where they’re covered head to toe in all black.

I have seen all except that terrible Burka

And i doubt that many American women wear one

Hi I live in Metro Detroit. Not near Dearborn, but believe me, I have seen them. First time I did was in the Detroit Institute of Arts on a woman in a room of nekked sculptures. I almost burst out laughing but contained myself.

Burkas are extreme and not that common but many cultures cover up for modesty.

Yes, but not to the extreme degree of the burka or nikab, where the entire face is hidden.

And you don’t have to show me photos of Orthodox or Hasidic women. I have several such friends. They show their full face and have pretty make-up, and often wear very attractive wigs. They wear pretty dresses (albeit below the knee) and very nice shoes.

No comparison to the oppressed Islamic women.

Do your friends feel oppressed, just less so?

Only the schmatte they wear on their heads.

When I was in middle school, my family lived in the Middle East for a couple years, because of my dad's job. So I've seen all the Muslim garb.

Obviously it was entirely different culture. Seeing other cultures around the world really made me appreciate being American...and I think a lot of Americans don't realize how good they have it.
