What is the purpose of tariffs on Canada?

Progressives had their chance. They had all the answers. And screwed up the economy. Their answers were printing up fiat currency with huge paper dollars legislation enactments. With Joe spouting he is being manufacturing back to the United States when he does nothing to do so. The only manufacturing is adding some employment with total government subsidies paid for by the taxpayers.
That is not even close to answering the question...

Again, what is the aims of these tariffs on Canada...

I am not trying a gotcha, just the honest truth...

This is going to cost Billions to the US Consumer, what is the goal... What is the success metric...

Reciprocation, retard. Why do they slap tariffs on our goods?
There are very few, Trump agreed to all of them and in some cases insisted on them.

He could have picked up the phone and said that he wants to tweak a few... Canada said they are open for discussion...

What is the purpose of disrupting both economies for this... We are talking about relatively small money...

Example: Biden increased the soft lumber tariff on Canada from 8.5% to 14.5%... It was done on a phone call...

If you want something, tell what it is first..

Canada makes cars intended for U.S. consumption but does not import U.S. cars. What does the U.S. need from Canada that can't be made in the greatest Country in the world? Hockey pucks? The threat of tariffs has already caused Canada to beef up security against the flow of drugs intended for American kids. Isn't that worth something even to the left?
In truth Canda likely has no need to import cars from the US as every major car company have factories there. Otherwise, you are on target. Fire for effect!

Antoinette, you need not strain so hard to prove that you’re completely retarded.

It’s already well established.
So are you saying that US wants a new free trade agreement?

Wouldn't it be better to go to negotiations first and at least ask for it?

Are Canada meant to guess what US wants?

I know what's going on, but can't say.

Problem is, We are all really guessing what the White House actually want?

It just doesn't seem that smart.
Even before war you issue your demands to see if your enemy will give it to you...

This is starting a trade war with no real exit strategy... What's the goal?

I know what's going on, but can't say.
So it is a secret...

So we have secret demands which Canada doesn't know about...

Who came up with the secret demands? How do we know if we win if it is a secret?

The object is getting Canada to perform due diligence on the border. They allow illegals into Canada and then allow them to cross the border between checkpoints into the US. If they never let them in, they can't get to the US illegally. Illegals from India use Canada as a gateway into the US. They fly into Canada, cross into the US and voila! They are here!

That is less than 1% of the illegal immigration that comes through the Canadian Land border, which is the longest land border in the world...
Canada has massively increased spending on that $1.3bn which was announced in December...

And to be fair
1741264633089.webp

So 30,000 are Canadians.

But I see no problem with Canadians vetting Indian immigrants better who enter the country...

Is that the demand? I don't think Canada would have a real problem with that...

As I said, Where is what they want written down in detail?

Where does it need to be written down?

BTW, thank you for proving my point.

One illegal or one microgram of fentanyl is too much. There needs to be zero tolerance.

So if one illegal comes across that Canadian border we Americans have to pay $1200?

That makes sense to you?

What, you got a better nothing burger?

Woo hoo.

The tariffs are a gamble. Let's see how it works out. What Canada wants is maintaining a pristine environment, low population growth, but high income for its people and government, at the expense of its trading partners.
MAGAts are stomp down crazy. They don't recognise reality even when it fucks them in the arse.

Seriously, zero tolerance?

So for starters all those US Citizens in Russian jails should be left there...

While if a Canadian decides to nip down to Walmart and goes through a boarder crossing that is closed... You want to impose billions of dollars of tariffs on US customers...
BTW, the Canadian is usually just escorted to the border and given a warning or Title 42.. What's the point?

The same if someone is caught butt end of weed in his pocket... Billions imposed... The guy might have gone north that day with in his pocket, unknown to himself...

Is this your Zero Tolerance?

So how long after one of these infractions are the tariffs going to be put in place? This is a massive disturbance to business...

That was in place way before Trump came into office so don't even,

But Biden tried to fix that.....OH.. WAIT.....
Wrong. NAFTA was in place. It was scheduled to be re-negotiated during his first term. He said he didn't like NAFTA and negotiated a "great deal", called it USMCA. He owns that.
USMCA is scheduled to be looked at next year. Imposing those tariffs just signals the world that treaties with the US are not worth the paper they're written on.

Bullshit. Auto makers make specific models in plants. They are sold all over NA. With parts from all over NA.
