What is the purpose of tariffs on Canada?

If you had even the sense that God gave geese, Antoinette, you’d already know.

Cool story, but thats not an actual answer, so....

Which "government sponsored protectionism of Canadian goods" does Trump believe is unfair?

Come on dummy, fess up. You have no fucking clue.

Still our questions don’t deserve that much attention.

So. Why do you ask?

And are you really that stupid?

Yes. Yes. Of course you are.

Clearly plenty of attention here...just no answer, so lets try again:

Antoinette. I see you can’t explain why your question has any significance.

It’s ok. Nobody expects any intelligence from you.

Nor does it address other government-sponsored protectionism of Canadian goods which Trump believes to be unfair.

I'm just asking you - WHAT DOESN'T IT ADDRESS?

The answer is of course you have no fucking clue.

You don't know what, if any, Canadian tarrifs Trump is demanding be removed. It's as obvious as your inability to simply admit that.

Why don't you know that? Because Trump has no specific goals, he just wants to stir up some shit and see what shakes out that he could use to declare victory. If nothing shakes out...he will still declare victory and there will be enough idiots to belive those lies too.

the purpose is to devalue everything, so billionaires can buy stuff for pennies on the dollar.

Don't need to go look for anything. The Canadians put tariffs on American goods all the time. WE have always been the lowest tariff setting nation IN THE WORLD>>FOR EVER
All the president WAnts is a level playing field. Why do we have to enrich them at OUR EXPENSE. Stop yer whining babies.
Those were signed by Trump himself...

They are very limited and why hasn't Trump said. Hey, I want zero tariff between our countries...
Those limited tariffs are place in by US businesses to protect themselves too...

For decades the US has offered nothing but the carrot in all trade negotiations.

Now that someone has brought the stick out, your primary bitch is who is using the stick. Admit it.
Have you a clue what trade is about...

I have something you want and you have something I want... We both agree that what the other has is more valuable to us, so we trade... We are not bot better off... It is a simple Win win, which has been in existence since cavemen..

What is the purpose of Canadian tariffs on US goods?
They are very limited and agreed & Signed by Trump.

There is <1% tarrif and that was reduced...

Largest tariff is 14.5% on soft lumber from Canada to US(Biden raised from 8.5% to 14.5%)...

Canada has some small tariffs to reconcile, that tariff, which is fair and how things are done.

US was doing this to protect it's lumber producers, so Canada can select an industry they would like to protect... Can't see what they tariffed... Could you tell us what Canada was tariffing after the 2020 deal...

And that may be where the President is going. THAT would be free trade. Why is it that WE have to be the loser. That must end. we are not the world's Uncle Sugar.
How are you the loser in this Free Trade Agreement....

It is trade, have money, trade for something I need...

Under your premise, we should close down Walmart, those guys just take our money in return for things like food... We have a definite trade deficit with Walmart...

Canada makes cars intended for U.S. consumption but does not import U.S. cars. What does the U.S. need from Canada that can't be made in the greatest Country in the world? Hockey pucks? The threat of tariffs has already caused Canada to beef up security against the flow of drugs intended for American kids. Isn't that worth something even to the left?
We addressed the Drugs thing in the OP...
It doesn't make sense to cause US Consumer Billions in costs <1% of the problem.
Better spend money on Mexico police training and technical surveillance..

Trump has laid out the purpose in detail, Simp.

You really should educate yourself on a topic before starting a thread and exposing your ignorance.
That's why I am posting here...

We are two pages in and we are pretty sure it isn't drugs or economically that is a very bad decision.

Then some suggested that Canada has tariffs on US goods. We asked what ones... They have no answer.

So we are asking, what is the actual purpose?

As I correctly noted, troll twat: already answered.

Your denial of that fact is of no significance.
If you answered...

Please give the number of your comment on this thread which has the answer?

The tariffs are a gamble. Let's see how it works out. What Canada wants is maintaining a pristine environment, low population growth, but high income for its people and government, at the expense of its trading partners.
What expense....

Now you are just tariffing Canada because you are jealous...

What is the purpose, to make Canada have a shitty environment, higher population and lower incomes...
So is that the goal? How does that make American's lives better?

Putting the off topic trolling of assholes like Antoinette aside in order to get back to the OP topic

Here’s a link to wide variety of Canadian tariffs on the USA as recent as 2022.

The purpose of US tariffs on Canuckistan is for the purpose of leveling the field a bit.

(This is still not a post tended to discuss the general value or wisdom of tariffs, in general.)
So if Canada offer to remove all Tariffs, US will do as well...

Does that include the 14.5% soft lumber tariff US has on Canada?

i.e. Free on both sides.

Clearly plenty of attention here...just no answer, so lets try again:

Progressives had their chance. They had all the answers. And screwed up the economy. Their answers were printing up fiat currency with huge paper dollars legislation enactments. With Joe spouting he is being manufacturing back to the United States when he does nothing to do so. The only manufacturing is adding some employment with total government subsidies paid for by the taxpayers.

Please tell us what the Tariffs on Canada are meant to achieve?
So lets say it is going to cost $450 per household per year

what it's target?

What metric will signify success?

Note:
There is barely any fentanyl that comes across the border.

---------
So maybe it is the trade imbalance... I don't know what balancing this does... It doesn't benefit either side...

United States Imports from Canada was US$421.21 Billion

View attachment 1086185

Canada Imports from United States was US$277.04 Billion

View attachment 1086186

So if Canada stops exporting Oil, Gas and Aluminium to US then that could balance up...
I know some will say that would kill US refining industry and severely hurt US exports (of Refined Oil and Gas) but this has to be balanced if that is the goal.

So what is the aim of these tariffs?
Reciprocation, retard. Why do they slap tariffs on our goods?
