What happens if you die alone??

Let’s say you live alone , have no friends and don’t work and you just drop dead

Is this a rarity that nobody could ever find you and you just decompose for several months

It’s a scary predicament, yes
EVERYONE dies alone and then meets God.

As far as your carcass?

Yep....seen that happen often. Lots of people get "discovered" dead when the rotten smell gets to be too much. Happens less often in rural areas. There you can rot for years before anyone discovers your corpse. My uncle was dead for almost two weeks before discovered. Neighbors stripped the place clean before actually calling anyone when they figured it out.

Unloved and unknelled is how the single old curmudgeon dies....zero dignity and zero comforts.

Maybe you should make some friends who actually have character and care about their friends (of which you could be one) Maybe even going so far as to get a spouse by being a nice and generous person. (Money is NOT required and too cheap to buy the friends you need anyway)

It's a reality....
Not a phoney obsession this time.

If the mail man sees your mail backing up....they call the cops.
Government worker?
Yeah....they are all over that.

My mail regularly backs up in my mailbox....especially at my old apartment. It got so full he couldn't stuff anymore in it.
I emptied it usually every couple of months.
Nobody did a welfare check whatsoever on account of mail.

Who that you have personally known deserved to die alone?

How many surrounding them in their lifetime lead to that isolation to die alone?
.

I had two brothers who were sociopathic, narcissistic junkies who never did an altruistic thing for another person. I think one of them died alone, and I feel no sympathy for him. One day I will forgive him.

The worst people I've ever met, the most evil and diabolical were those you probably wouldn't expect. Most of them making a very comfortable living in police departments.

I don't know your brothers obviously, but for me, I don't care about people with egos or those who are arrogant. I just let it run off my back. Evil is the key.

For instance, how did they become addicted to poisons? Who introduced these substances to them? How did they become so selfish and was it due to the introduction of these poisons or was it in their core being, in their soul?

I try to distinguish between the two. There are G-ds Commands as we know. Hopefully they didn't violate many and/or if they did, they were able to find forgiveness from their victims.

I care about the group I have willed my home to. If I laid there decomposing for too long, it might be harder to sell the home.

.
You might have a point there, but a possum got locked in an old storage house on the back of my property, and it was the next spring before It was opened again. He had dried up and looked like a pile of bones wrapped in leather, but it was pretty easy to clean up. He was way past the gooey stage. Might be better if it's a while before you are found. Less mess

What about those that have friends and family all around them?
THAT is a fantasy....
It really doesn't happen very often.

Usually most old people are sick, get slowly sicker, and eventually die.

Those they once knew are also old and frail if still alive. They can't come to visit....it will be a miracle if they can make it to a funeral other than their own. (If a service is even held for them because so few who are still alive care)

It happens.

AI Overview

If someone dies alone at home, authorities are notified, and the body is typically taken to the medical examiner's office. The medical examiner will attempt to identify the body and locate next of kin. If the body is not identified or next of kin cannot be found, it may be held by the office until a funeral director can be found, or turned over to the Department of Transitional Assistance.

Here's a more detailed breakdown:
  • Notification and Investigation:
If the death is unexpected, the police will be notified and will investigate to rule out foul play.

  • Medical Examiner Involvement:
The medical examiner's office will be contacted, and an investigator will be sent to the scene.

    • Identification Attempts:
The medical examiner's office will attempt to identify the deceased through various methods, including fingerprints and dental records.
    • Next of Kin Search:
If identified, authorities will attempt to contact next of kin to arrange for burial or cremation.
    • Unclaimed Bodies:
If the body cannot be identified or if no next of kin can be located, the body may be held by the medical examiner's office.
    • Disposition of Unclaimed Bodies:
If the body remains unclaimed for an extended period, it may be cremated or donated to science, depending on local laws and regulations.
    • Intestate Succession:
If there are no heirs or will, the deceased's property and possessions are subject to intestate succession, which is a process by which the estate is distributed by the court.

I've done the authorities a favor and posted a list on my fridge of all the details, including where my will is located. My cremation is already paid for and I will be buried in the same plot with my husband at the VA cemetery.

A trusted friend knows the combination to my safe and what I want done with what's inside.

Well spoken. I think about these things all the time. I wonder how I escaped the evil that got them.

Executors of wills get a thankless job. All the recipients all claim the executor is stalling or not working quickly enough or some other kind of crap.
(Greedy SOBs....all of them)

I've seen a few executors that were greedy and absconded with "extra". Not enough to really sue over or anything like that. Just enough to hurt everyone's feelings.

Just depends on the family dynamics.

Government worker?
Yeah....they are all over that.
It's not their job to do welfare checks. However, if you actually know your mail carrier and speak with them, they might call the police to do one, but most will probably keep stuffing your box. You're just another address on their route. Some are better than others, but most do a good job.

Sounds like you prepared very well for death. How have you prepared for life?

After a few days dead people smell very strongly. In any urban or suburban setting you will be found pretty quickly so stop worrying about it.

Besides, you won't notice, you will be dead.

In some cases, deceased individuals are not discovered quickly due to various factors, including remote locations, natural disasters, or circumstances surrounding the death itself. The National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs) database, maintained by the U.S. Department of Justice, plays a crucial role in identifying and locating missing persons and the unclaimed dead.

Here's a more detailed look at some examples:
  • Remote Locations:

Individuals who die in remote areas, like the Grand Canyon, can be difficult to find. A hiker in the Grand Canyon was last seen heading towards the river and may have descended into a canyon, but search efforts were unsuccessful for a time, according to the National Park Service.

  • Natural Disasters:
    .Opens in new tab
Natural disasters can cause bodies to be submerged or scattered, making it difficult to locate them promptly. The receding waters of Lake Mead have brought many previously submerged bodies to the surface, some of which remain unidentified, according to The Guardian.

  • Circumstances of Death:
    .Opens in new tab

In cases of suicide or accidental death, the deceased may not be discovered for extended periods, as noted by Scene Clean, Inc.. For example, Benjamin Pfantz was found under a New Orleans overpass several months after his death.

  • NamUs Database:

The NamUs database helps families locate their missing or unclaimed loved ones. An NBC News article highlights how some families, like Sherry and Theron Pfantz, were able to find their son, Benjamin, after his body was listed on NamUs. In another case, William Swanton's family waited 46 days to learn of his death, highlighting the importance of NamUs in such situations, according to NBC News.

None of those apply to the scenario you outlined in the OP.

I remember a story from years back, about an old lady that died in her arm chair in front of the TV. They found her many years later- a mummy and the TV was still on.
What brand TV?
Those suckers just don't last anymore.
Need a better replacement.

he was a skeleton when they found him, he was in a chair, watching TV, it was turned on but no longer working.
we ran a call to an unresponsive elderly gent who passed peacefully watching TV , looked like he was sleeping.......as we (two emt's) were assessing, this hit the screen.......
