The question to me remains whether the party has changed, or if Trump has simply exposed it for what it really is. It has obviously always had a relatively strong Christian component, but this thing has brought it to the forefront and perverted into something else. It's certainly not the first time a major religion has been hijacked.

Sincere, humble religion can be a very positive thing. But once it's distorted and politicized, it can be dangerous and authoritarian. There's plenty of examples of that throughout world history. Here we go again, I guess.

The region known as Palestine was ruled alternately by Rome, by Islamic and Christian crusaders, by the Ottoman Empire and, briefly, by the British after World War I. The British agreed to restore at least part of the land to the Jewish people as their ancestral homeland. It was never ruled by Arabs as a separate nation.
