Climate change on Earth is dictated by the amount of ice on Earth, currently 9 million cubic miles. Ice controls
ocean levels
temperature
atmospheric thickness/surface air pressure
humidity
Right now 90% of Earth ice is on Antarctica, 7% on Greenland. Think of Earth as a "room" with two AC units, Arctic and Antarctic, each with settings
0 = off
10 = maxCOOL
Right now Arctic is set at 1 and Antarctic is set at 9
The warm parameter of Earth is two polar oceans resulting in little to no ice, warmer, wetter, much higher surface air pressure = Jurassic.
The cold parameter would be two polar continents, "two Antarcticas," which would be colder, drier, and lower surface air pressure.
Every foot of snow has 11 inches of air and 1 of water. Compact that to a fraction of an inch under 10000 ice core layers and that gas is still there. Melt it and the amount of gas in the atmosphere increases dramatically. There is more gas trapped in Antarctic ice than there is in the atmosphere now.
Air that passes over Antarctic cools 50F more than Arctic. Antarctic cools atmosphere more than Arctic.
Antarctic dumps 10 times the ice into the oceans vs. Arctic, some 46 times the H2O the Mississippi river dumps in the Gulf, and that ice is colder than Arctic ice = Antarctic cools oceans more than Arctic.
All about WHERE LAND IS and GETTING THE DEFINITION OF ICE AGE CORRECT...
What is an ICE AGE?
Most apparently still believe it is a terrifying horror movie event where Earth all at once freezes up. The data has never supported such a scenario. Since 2010, there has been a massive effort to re-write Earth climate history into a series of rapid "glaciations" and ice retreats, as if "Day After Tomorrow" movie is accurate... LOL!!! What was North American Ice Age before 2010 is now spun into a series of rapid "ice ages" where it took a mere 75k years for the "ice age" to start in Northern Canada and put 2.5 mile thick glaicers on Chicago. This is "Milankovich"...
Greenland and Antarctica ARE ICE AGES....
In ice age
Not in ice age
An ice age starts when land gets to within 600 miles to a pole. There the annual snowfall ceases to fully melt during summer, and starts to stack (what we find in ice cores).
